We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Get the top gear crew to do all the roads in Britain.

Im fed up with the roads in this country! I / we pay our taxes on fuel car tax etc etc yet we are stuck with awful roads! The government do nothing about it except sit back and coin the money in! Im fed up with it, its taken me 30 mins this morning to travel 4 miles in West Sussex as road works on two major routes are down! Its an outrage! Why when we pay so much to the up-keep of the roads are we delayed beyond the acceptable? I would like the government to employ the Top Gear team and ideas in to repairing all the useless roads in Britain.

Brilliant, another petition for the government to ignore.

Well if you noticed he said it cost on average for that length of road 7500gbp more. That is allot of money when you are talking the scale of the entire country and it would be your tax money paying for it. That said there way was much more interesting.

Most of the extra cost was in the fish and chips 75 times. If they had the contract full time I suspect they would bring packed lunches :)

that extra cost is peanuts in the greater scheme of things. Quicker roadworks would save the local and national economy far far more than that. Never mind the loss to local business, what about the cost of the wasted fuel waiting in queues formed by roadworks.

When I was in the US recently I noticed some preparatory work underway at a major intersection between two four-lane highways. Then one night, whilst driving nearby, I noticed lots of lights both static and moving and a many many vehicles moving about and smoke and steam. It was almost like a major industrial site had suddenly arrived in the neighbourhood. Then, next morning, I drove through the intersection only to find acres of new black tarmac, pristine white lines, new traffic lights... and one man tinkering with the new road signs. Job done - overnight. It was as though the entire road-working assets of the whole State had been deployed to do the job in about 10 hours.

But no, let’s carry on doing it the good old British way. Four men and one wheelbarrow doing a mediocre job over twelve weeks. Sod the motorist.

I have to say working at night does make sense but I will also say you have obviously not traveled on interstate 81 in Pennsylvania because there is ALWAYS a lane full of traffic cones with no one around who seems to be doing a damn thing except the cop who is giving everyone a ticket for not going 45mph in the "construction zone". Which of course isn't actually a construction zone it is a cone zone.... I think it is about making money from the increased tickets handed out.

but even when the road is repaired, its never even with the rest of the road, then 2 weeks later another compnay comes by and digs up the same place leaving it in even more of a mess..

my car is only 3 inches from the ground at the front. i spend most of my driving time avioding pot holes, bumps, dips etc, its appauling..

Get a higher car :)

thats what i thought,

but! why should i?? i pay just as much road tax and other taxs as you, if not more! when £50 of fuel only gets you 220 miles think of the tax i pay on that when covering 16k miles a year!
