Ready for the start of the challenge

1. For the month of October I'll use only my eos1000d and 50mm 1.8 lens.

2. Will post 3 images per week.

3. At least one image I'll be using manual focus.

What I hope to achieve is to think about composure more and get to grips with the 50mm as I only got it last week.

Week one, Image one
Was hoping to get out over the weekend but had a lot on so first chance i had to get out was this evening, a walk through the woods next to my house. So here's my first image for my Prime lens Challenge

Hi ya

2 lovely images there....great DOF on both but just love the simple colors of the lily

Lilly does it for me as well...

Such a simple shot and all the more impact for that....

Lovely...

Thank you both, personally I wasn't sure if there was a bit much going on in the background on the 1st pic, was quite happy with the 2nd one though.

That lilly is fantastic - the colour is wonderful and rich with lovely DoF.

Nick

Hi Peter,

That's a great start to the challenge. I love the lily. It's lovely and sharp. I also like the fungus but it is slightly spoiled by the twig going across the picture in the background. I would have been tempted to clone it out.

Jenny

Hmm... Jenny got in first and said everything I would have said.

The Lily is spot on and well composed. Lovely rich colours going on. The fungus is also well placed in the frame, but that twig certainly is distracting.

Ian.

Thank you all, I agree with both Jenny and Harlequin about the background in the 1st image, unfortunately I've no experience of PP and is something I'm going to have to learn.

Once again thanks for the comments and suggestions, being pretty new to photography it certainly helps me alot.

nice start Peter. Same as everyone else really, #1 - distracting background #2 - great colours and dof.

i wouldn't worry about cloning things out... just concentrate on the composition and have a look at your subject from different angles. We're all learning all the time

Great colours, and nice depth of field.

Went out there to get a few shots, and did, right before the front element came out the lens! I know it's not an expensive lens and the build quality will be inferior to more expensive ones but didn't think it would be that bad!

Anyway, will post a couple of shots after dinner and hopefully I can the lens replaced before next week :D

Week one, Image 3 (and hopefuly not my last of the challenge!)

Went out with the intention of taking some slow exposures after the heavy rainfall here the past few days, was hard to get near the burn due to paths being closed but this is the one I'm happiest with.

made a good job of that water Peter... just about the right choice of shutter speed and nicely exposed throughout

shame about the lens... was it brand new when you got it? if so, they should swap it straight over

It was mate, ordered from amazon, it's only a few weeks old.

Thanks very much for the comments on the photo.

great river shot, slowed very nicely

love the colours in your lily and the texture in the fungi

Thank you for having a look and commenting, glad you like them.

Like the rivershot and lily :)

Thank you, new lens should be here next week so can get back on with the challenge then!

Good shape and composition on the Lily

3 very nice shots there Peter. I think #2 is my fave, with the nice bokeh.. looks quite mediterranean. #3 is much better viewed in larger format on flickr

Thank you, was lucky with shot 2, the rain stopped for a whole 10 minutes and I managed to get that :D

nice shots... I wonder what #1 would look like as a mono.....

Thanks, if I get time this week I'll do a mono conversion on it and stick it up.

Running a bit late this week, hopefully get out and get a few added tonight though.
