Can anyone help?
I've just bought from Amazon a Samsung Galaxy.
New and in a sealed box.
I've just got it set up and the name Peter Deacon with a phone number G-mail account is all over it.
The order was "fulfilled by Amazon" and they won't replace it. I have to return it to them, they will examine it and then refund me if they think it appropriate. If I want a phone it is up to me to buy a new one pending Amazon's decision. I might end up with two phones! I've now deleted Peter Deacon, but it's possible that he could buy things on my O2 account, which is my main worry.

I just wonder if Peter Deacon might be some "test" or holding type account created somewhere in manufacture. Seems a long shot, but I'm struggling to work out how a sealed unit casn have been used. No evidence of tampering with the box at all; it looks just as you'd expect.

Can anyone throw any light on this?

Is it a refurb?

Not sure how he would be able to use your o2 account though, surely he'd have to have your username and password to do that. (I'm on o2 and I seem to remember you had to enter your password if you wanted to change/order anything.

If it's supposed to be brand new and unused then it should have started with the welcome setup screen as per all android phones and not have any accounts on there at all.

Those were my thoughts. Phone is supposed to be new. Original seals et al.
Name only appeared after O2 store did a data transfer from my i phone. Can't fathom it at all

Oh ok, I'd guess the phone is new and ok then. Looks like the o2 store have managed to transfer something they maybe should not have from a previous customer of their 'data transfer' service or there was something on your old iphone.

Thinking about it the O2 angle seems most likely, but I can't be certain. No way of finding out, and Amazon are worse than useless at helping.

Have you done a search for the name and email addy?
There's only 164 listed on 192.com!

No I haven't. I deleted everything before I realised that I'd put payment details in the phone.

He had a g mail account which I had to delete in order to set one up for me nut now I cannot get into mine even though I can see mails waiting for me!

someone on here may have a code for the free sandisk software, cant hurt.
If it was me I would send the phone back as it is not fit for purpose, you cant get it to do what you need it to do!

Yes, I'm in the middle of a big argument with Amazon. Unfortunately I'm dealing with Raj, who gives the impression that English is not his first langauge.

I usually find Amazon pretty good at resolving issues!
Ask for a supervisor to deal with it.

I would have thought that your issue was with the transfer done by O2 in store, rather than Amazon.

I tend to agree with this. It seems the phone was fine until O2 did the data transfer. If I was unsure what I was doing I'd take it back to O2 and get them to sort it out properly for you. Although a 'factory reset' of a Samsung is not difficult and it does wipe everything.
Just need to remember the password for the gmail account and it'll sync everything back.

Thanks for all your help. I can remember my password but it won't let me in! Think I'll go back to the shop. No doubt I'll get another brush off!

It does sound like the issue lies with something that o2 did at the store.

If the phone came new/sealed from Amazon then I can't see it being that side. Some outfits do resell 'nearly new' as new and have a helpful assistant 'break' the seal to show you the contents in the shop. Clearly this didn't happen this time hence thinking the o2 angle.

Once again, thanks. I've given up for today. All this techy stuff has given me a headache. Time to get out with the camera methinks.

It's some sort of virusy type thing, I've heard of this before, but can't remeber where. Same situation though, this Peter Deacon fellow attached himself to someone else's itunes account or something like that.

Many, many tears ago I bought a brand new, sealed in cellophane, copy of Microsoft Works from a well known (at that time) software dealer. On attempting to install said software I found that it had already been installed and was registered to someone else. I took it back, no explanations were offered and I got a refund.

I bought a BNIB Xbox from a well known high street store, low and behold it had somebody else's account details on there with auto sign in, we got sky everything + movies & netflix for a whole year then it went off. I just purchased a second xbox hard drive for my son's log in and user name so he could down load games.

The account was linked to PP but we never used it, but we could have spanked it silly.

Best advice i can offer is -

1. Do a factory reset of the phone (will wipe any personal contents on the device)

2. Verify that you can log onto your gmail account using a computer to rule out anything that may be wrong with your login)

3. Do your own manual data transfer, laboreous yes but at least you get exactly what you want

is it from amazon direct, or a 3rd party who sells via amazon?

Just saying if you look on a well known auction site yuo can purchase books of seals to reseal boxes i.e. Samsung, Apple etc... Not assaying this has happened here... however...

Never knew you could buy labels! It was from a third party seller via Amazon. I have examined the box very closely and there's not even the slichtest sign of opening/resealing.
Present state is that Amazon have given me an immediate refund, and I have to return the phone inside 30 days.
However, I went back into the O2 shop and they say that a Peter Deacon was indeed in the store before me.
They have done what they claim is a full reset, but have maintained contacts etc.
I can now get into my Gmail account (Not that I'll be using it much!)
On the face of it everything is sorted, always assuming that I can trust what a 20 something in a phone shop tells me. And that's a big assumption!

Good to hear your sorted.
You may not use the gmail account for email but it's used for the Google Play Store where you can download all those lovely apps, coming from an Apple device you may be surprised at how many apps are free on android (y)

Thanks. I hope I'm sorted!
I'm busy finding about Android apps but am buggered if I can find a long exposure app to use with my big filters.
All part of the fun!

Wow - o2 copied someone elses data so your phone?

That's pretty low even for them!

Oh I'm sure they can get a lot lower than that.

Is it my rapidly advancing years or do the staff in mobile phone stores really not care a fig as long as they make their targets?
