Evening gentlemen,

so, I current;y have a rubbish Wix.com site. I'm now fluent in wordpress site building, and have developed a wordpress site that I have hosted locally on my mac using map.

Now, I have to get a domain name etc etc, Im aware of that, however does anyone have any recommendation for good value places to actually get my wordpress site live on a server? As I'm reckoning thats what I need, in addition to the monthly hosting etc.

Advice appreciated!

Thanks, Lawrence e

Been five years I think with TSOHOST for hosting and domain and never once had an issue. In fact I would say of all the companies I have ever dealt with they are the best for customer service............and that includes Amazon!

Just to add that when moving from your computer to your host you will need to remap your URL's, wp-config.php & data base

Never heard of TSOhosts till this week and now they seem to be getting recommended by everyone! I was about to move my site to them but they have a small max database size. I have 2 wordpress sites on HostPresto, which are good and I have one with hosting.co.uk, which is the one that is getting moved ASAP as they are pants.

Have you spoken to them?

Nope, since they list the same limit for all packages it seems like they'r pretty set on it. I have a friend who is using woocommerce with them though and it was him that recommended them after I was impressed by its performance.

Is this MySQL databases?

my website hosted here: www.slimcat.uk :) domain registrar not that big difference really (only customer service if you ever need it) I moved about 10 domains in the last yeah from 1and1 as they pretty bad, and moved to godaddy, they seems fine (and their control panel not that confusing like 1and1)

Alan 1GB is not a bad total data base size

How much total MySQL disk space are you actually using at the moment?

What I do for most Wordpress sites is offload the media to Amazon S3. It is cheaper to host, it is faster to serve, and it doesn't eat into your own bandwidth.

Either way it wouldn't eat into your database size, as Keith W say, 1GB is pretty large for just some text.

1GB for SQL db is enough in most cases. I have built some e-commerce shops on opencart, having 3000+ products and even more registered customers, and it's still about 40-50MB size

I've been using 34SP.com for a few years now and find them to be great.

OP @lawrenceots seems forgot about this thread :) What sort CMS you running @Alan Clogwyn? Wordpress with 50+ plugins to use so much db? Wordpress pretty bad on db as built small woocommerce website having only 50 products (with 20 variations of each in colour etc) so it's pretty hungry on db and using about 70MB (about 400 registered users with over 1000 orders in woocommerce)

Something like that, 1000 products so far, lots of categories, attributes, custom order statuses and other database hungry things.

thats why you need to use proper e-commerce CMS and not wordpress/woocommerce :)

some clients asking for websites to be built on WP, but I always recommend something lightweight and fast like opencart (heavy modified one, so no updates possible after that...)

Had I known what a PITA woocommerce would be I probably would have gone elsewhere, but the demo sites I tried from the competition weren't particularly inspiring either and I know wordpress pretty well.

Is your registration email fine for the invoice for the trading account?

sorry @dod , does helping fellow photographers out counts as trade? sorry if I broke any rules here  will have a read now :)

No, posts advising on things like exposure, composition etc are fine. Posts and PM's offering chargeable services on the other hand........... :(

No, that's helping out fellow photographers :D

TSO Host are awesome. Go daddy / UK reg are rogues. For domains I've used LCN.com for about 15 years and they are fantastic.

Started preparing the transfer of mine from hosting.co.uk today, and the server flaked out whilst exporting the database. Can't wait to be shot of them!
