i dont know if this is the right place guys, so please forgive me if it is not, When photographing football, rugby etc may i add NOT the pros, do you need permission ie, invited by the club to take them, or can you just turn up at any old footy/rugby game and start clicking away?.

What I actually did was to contact - out of courtesy - the Media/Press Officer of my local Rugby club and asked if he minded my coming to a few matches to get some experience and practice of sports photography.

It really depends what level.. you say not pros but there are still varying levels.. You ask if you need to ask..well yes at some levels but not at others..
I have never gone to a match of any sport without organising it in advance with someone.. 90% before the day or if its somehtign I ahve come across then pre match or pre event.. but deffo pre pointing my camera.
