Hi guys/gals,

Does anyone out there know how to or even if its possible to shoot a subject next to glass and get the subject in focus and obtain a perfect reflection of the subject too? I will add that this has to be done in darkness OUTSIDE. The room which the glass joins will also be dark (no lights on).
I have tried a couple of shots but have not got enough to go on. I will add that i can use up to 3 flash guns, one master on the hotshoe and two other wireless slave units.

Without even going into the DOF problems issues here I am so confused. How did you want to obtain the reflection without any source of light?
I may be way ignorant here and probably missing something but could you explain first how do you want to obtain the reflection on to the glass?
You can only photograph what is there, and I just fail to see how a reflection can be obtained without any source of light.
Unless you mean using flash....

Hi Zulupentax,

Yes it would be with flash, i did add that i have 3 that can be used if thats what it takes to obtain a reflection rather than looking straight through the glass. - Hope it makes sense?

Play with the angles and as you say with multiple flash you can pull it out.
You will certainly have to avoid directly lighting the glass, that I can say for starters, or else you will get a direct light reflected and ruining your images.

Thanks Zulupentax I will have a play around and see how I get along :-)

Joe McNally did an outdoor shoot many moons ago of (iirc) a baseball player with the subject reflected in numerous mirrors, I'm pretty sure the details of the setup are in one of his books...

Ideally I want to steer clear of using photoshop techniques if I can. I think it's just going to be a case of trying until I get it right.
