I have just had a rather odd experience;
While out looking for a new pair of walking boots / burning up a roll of poundland film to test my new fed2 I just came across a new, (for me), camera shop in Eltham south east london. I wandered up to the window and was immediately struck by some of the lovely vintage and secondhand stock on offer. Mrs Pirate sighed, and offered to take the jr pirate off around mothercare while I took a look.
I popped in and asked about developing. Proper shops can be daunting to people new to "clever" photography and even more daunting if you are new to film. However the gent in the shop spent a good ten minutes chatting to me, I asked about lens caps and he managed to find me an old russian one for my lump of a fed2. He even found me a couple of strap lugs when I asked. He also advised me to try some tri-x tk-400, as "its well worth a go - there is a reason it is so popular" and gave me some great hints as to what cheap and secondhand lightmeters I should keep an eye out for. I came out only 14 quid lighter in the pocket, (which made mrs pirate happy). The whole experience reminded me why we need proper shops with real expertise and real staff.
Great customer service. Lovely people, well worth a trip if you live in SE London or Kent. - Percival Cameras - 207 Eltham High Street Eltham, London SE9 1TX
