I am thinking of a buying a case

looking at the 1520 Air baggage case

Any got one of these how much gear do yuo put in it.

At present i have

D80 and Grip

D70

70-200mm F2.8
18-200mm
18-125mm
50mm F1.8

and want to add a 24-70mm F2.8 soon.

will all this fit, any canon users got a simular setup does it fit.. whats my other options of hard cases

I also have Lightshere
SB800 and some other accessories maybe to fit into the case aswell

I recon you may have too much gear for the 1510. Are you going for foam or dividers. Dividers give more space.

Best do a dry run. Draw out the interior of the case about 1/2" smaller all round. Now try and fit your gear in it. You may want to consider what you have in. Do you really need an 18-200 as well as an 18-125. And do you need either is you get the 24-70. I looked at the 1510 for may Canon kit and it's really to small to get it all in. I now use a Low Pro Trekker and that get the camera gear in. Flash gear lives in a separate shoulder bag. Good news is I don't carry it all round with me. I tend to use the Trekker as a base unit and then decant into a smaller bag for particular shoots.

Pelli Cases and similar hard cases do seem to protect the gear, but there is some feeling among some Photographers that they look a bit to tempting. A bit like a big label saying "Expensive Stuff Steal Me".

One suggestion has been to get a back pack and then find a rigid shell suitcase that it will fit into. Less conspicuous.

we use peli cases at work, and they are brilliant, strong and durable and dispite getting regularly caked in dirt and then jet washed, the seals seem to keep all the moisture out.

compared with (proper) aluminium shelled hard cases such as spider (which i have as a toolbox), the actual case itself is alot lighter.

not got any experience of camera gear in them though

I use a ThinkTank Airport Ultralight bag inside a Peli 1510. It's expensive but it means you have a rucksac when you get to your destination. Mine takes 300/2.8, 70-200/2.8, 24-104/4, teleconverters, EOS 1D and EOS 1Ds.

1520 doesn't have wheels so I'd think twice about that and look at the ones that do

many thanks everyone

i dont need a 18-200 and a 18-125, i will be replacing one of them with the 24-70mm

ill look at other cases,

i am looking a a Lowepro rucksac due to the lifetime warranty

Peli Cases with the foam in are incredible, I've seen a D80 go over a 11meter waterfall in one and come out totally unharmed.

I have one myself, and wouldn't recommend anything else.

the main reason for buying one is a one off trip next year to australia.

hongkong (whilst here ill be investing in some new lenses hopefully)
Sydney
Melbourne
Caines
Fiji
then home again

and storing at home.

i just feel it may be a better option than carring a Rucksack.

what do guys reckon
