Looking to get away next weekend for Saturday night, looking to find a good location to be based from with good access to waterfalls, woods and hills.
Any suggestions please?

cheers

Well you have the dark peak area which includes The Great Ridge, Winnats Pass etc. Not too far from here is Hathersage and that gives easy access to Stannage, Higer Tor and Surprise View. Up the road is the Longshaw Estate complete with seemingly resident ice cream vans. This offers you woods and the well known Padley Gorge. You could also pull in a trip to see the falls at Lumsdale which is more towards Matlock and Tansley. With the amount of rain we've had and is forecast then Kinder Downfall may be running now too.

Big bodies of water include the Ladybower, Derwent and Howden reservoirs which are all connected. These offer you plug holes and dam walls, bridges and aquaducts.

Plenty on offer. Depends which part or parts you want to pull in.

HTH's.
David.

Cheers David - that's a lot on offer!
If you could choose 1 location David, where would you suggest?

Thanks again,
Neil

I'm a sucker for Winnats Pass and Mam Tor/Back Tor/Losehill but they have all been photographed to death. They're very popular because of the views and at this time of year you can get some pretty cool inversions in the valley. Win Hill is also in with a shout as you're the other side of the three peaks mentioned above so you may get the sun lighting them a little as it rises. This would also tie in well with Ladybower Reservoir which could yield some nice autumnal reflections if the weather allows. Depends what time of day you're aiming for i guess and what is highest on your list of priorities.

If you stay in Hathersage / Hope / Castleton you can then look at Winnat's Pass through to Mam Tor and Edale. You are also within very easy travel of Stanage Edge; Curbar Edge; Bole Hill quarry and Padley Gorge.

If the weather is poor then the last two work will as they are under the tree canopy which is now starting its beautiful autumnal display. (They are also good for during the day when others are better for early or late in the day)

If there is a chance of an inversion then Winnat's Pass and Mam Tor which are both close to each other are a must.

Whatever you decide, enjoy the time. It is a beautiful part of the world.

Monsal trail is also a good place to go. There's the classic Viaduct shot, plenty of other nice scenery and also the weir that makes a nice 'waterfall' pic. Minnt's mentioned most of the others, although there's also places like Curbar Edge and the Chatsworth Estate too. Lumsdale and Three Shires Head are probably the best places for waterfalls.
