So we decided to rejoin the National trust as most things are now open. Our temporary passes have arrived by email, with the instructions to print the attached PDF in B&W (for QR code I guess). However, for some reason, my Canon TS8250 won't print them in B&W, it just feeds through a plain sheet of paper. It does print in colour though.

Any ideas?

If you can print it in colour do that and do a screenshot of the QR code then convert that with more contrast if need be to print clearly.
I would expect they could scan the QR code from a copy on your phone really.

I had thought about that, but I'm sure I have a problem because when I do this, it looks like the ink has been watered down. Definitely a printer issue, it won't print word docs in b&W either.

This may produce what you need...

- Open the PDF in the Preview app
- File > Export...
On the save dialog presented, there should be a dropdown menu called Quartz Filter, select Black & White
- Save the file (you might have to rename it)

I only have access to an older version of Preview at the moment, hopefully this funtionality is still available.

I've replaced the black ink cartridges and it's working fine. They weren't showing as empty though...

I have the same printer and like you keep an eye on ink low warnings.

FWIW and you may know already.....I have pushed the warning to point something prints poorly but now once I have gone about 20 pages beyond the low warning I print a nozzle check and so do that once every so often and then fit a new cart once the nozzle check print shows degradation.
