What is best for a pc is it to Shutdown or put into Sleep mode Overnight ?

Don't know what's "best" but I always shut ours down when it's not going to be used, also saves electric

Modern ones use practically nothing in sleep or hibernate.
Even when fully off there's a slight drain keeping the on button live unless you switch off at the plug.
Older windows used to often eventually succumb to stalling at shut down or start-up problems, seven seems less troubled that way but it's also very stable and will run for weeks on end without reboot.

I tend to pop mine on for a few minutes several times a day so prefer the almost instant on from sleep just by touching the keyboard.

(maybe far away from thinking logically here)

i always turn mine off, as have had computers in the past overheat, and the fans arent overly fantastic, which causes the heatsinks on connections to melt thus causing probs with the computer- in sleep mode its effectively on isnt it??? just without an visual on the screen

but then this might just be my phobia from the previous expenses.....

I think different makes vary, my first one on Win98 I never used sleep because the fan kept humming, but every one since then has shut down to silence comparable to a TV on standby.

I am no expert of the merits of sleep or turning off, but no pc these days should overheat unless severely overclocked or if the fans/filters are clogged up with dust.
Silent fans are dead cheap and so easy to fit that any noisy ones are worth replacing, and a quick hoover out will clear most of the dust out !

What you do is up to your personal preference. I don't put mine off at all generally but that's just down to laziness!

Shutdown whenever I don't need it, usually switch it on 2 or 3 times a day.

Sleep for me, only restart mine when a system update requires it.
