PC equipment on the plane in main luggage

Does anyone have any experience with transporting computer parts on the plane in main luggage ? I want to transport some bits and pieces on my next trip home and have this silly feeling that my luggage can be stopped from getting on to airplain after gettin' xrayed...when the will see some 'strange' looking electronic equipment and think thats something dodgy lookin'....
What do you think??
or is it just me looking for some silly reasons to be worried :bonk:
 
There shouldn't be any problems at all. I've just retired from a job where all manner of electronic cards and modules have been in my checked luggage and it was okay (80-120 flights/year). Some airports will ask for x-ray checks at check-in but it's only a formality.

I take all my gear in to the cabin with me. Not trusting the airlines with it.

I had a bag searched last time in Toronto as it goes. It was random though and not a result of the contents of my bag. Which was 2 lenses and a 400D.

I just made sure the bloke who was inspecting my bag knew full well that there was fragile equipment in there and he better be damn careful getting it out.

If they have an issue with luggage contents they can be known just to rip the cases open and then tape them back up. You don't want this to happen if your equipment happen to be the contents.

im not worried for the equipment as is not too fragile (mobo,cpu,cooler,gpu and router;) ) im just worried not to be asked to leave plane because they think there is something suspicious in my bag :D

I wouldn't... My experience with similar stuff was no trouble getting it onboard but oh boy, if you could see the state of it when I unpacked. And this was despite bubble wrap and placing within clothes and towels etc. Everything was so bad it looked like the case had been used for football. I suspect marking the case with fragile tape didn't help either, probably drew attention from some rogue worker...
 
As you long you don't spread the components around the suitcase with bits of wire running between them with a watch and a few batteries thrown in you should be fine.
 
I've carried all sorts of odd kit both checked and in cabin baggage
they used to ask for the laptop to be powered up, but they seem to be more worried about swabbing for drugs

Once had the camera checked I said "please don't touch the lens"
they were ok about it
 
I recently checked a Cisco 3600 Series router at London City airport.

Went through absolutely fine, although they did want to x-ray it specially.
