Received an email from PayPal stating:

We are sending you this notice because you have received more than 1,200.00 GBP in total payments to your PayPal account.

European Union anti-money laundering regulations and "know-your-customer" regulations require us to collect additional information when customers receive more than the mentioned amount in total payments.

To lift your receiving limit: 1. Log in to your account at https://www.paypal.co.uk.
2. Click the "Resolution Centre" tab and complete all required steps.

Please provide the requested information within the allotted timeframe. Once all the steps have been completed, we will review your PayPal account and email you to let you know if we have sufficient information.

If you cannot complete these steps, click "Contact Us" to go to the Help Centre for more information or to contact Customer Service.

We appreciate your business and apologise for any inconvenience.

No, it's not a fake email, I went and logged in using my own shortcut and it's genuiine https://, so no worries there. Verified the first two steps, received the automated phone call and punched in the code supplied, and the next step is basically forcing me to upgrade to a business account... it seems if I don't do this my account is frozen indefinitely after my incoming funds reach £1700, which isn't that far off now.

Has anyone else had this? It states upgrade for a small fee, etc, etc. I don't want or need a bliddy business account; I'm not a business, but if I don't take it, it looks like I'm snookered!

So, I go to the resolution centre and get the following and need to click 'Resolve' at the bottom...

... and then get this... which looks to me like it isn't optional.

Answers on a postcard please.... :bang:

The answer is to not use Paypal and encourage folks to use a less anti-social payment method.

Its all pain and no gain if you accept Paypal IMHO.

Ive had that & its pretty straight forward.

Also, we have opened a Paypal account with my other halfs card attached
& move money back & forth which makes sure that there is never too much
in the main account.

How do they expect you to fill in all the fields for a business account regarding income from business, VAT No, etc, etc, when none of that applies to me?

Lol forgot to finish that bit :bang:

I gave them a call & let them know that i wasnt a business.

They advised that it was a security feature to impose restrictions on the
account in case someone had hacked the account for fraudulent reasons.

Cheers, Snoop, will try giving them a call tomorrow...

Business Type: Individual
Category: Toys and Hobbies
Subcategory: Cameras and Photographic Supplies
Percentage of annual revenue from online sales:Less than 25%

Don't put "non-profit" as that's for charities and they'll ask you for all sorts of crap if you do that :whistling: :bonk:

So who do you suggest for an easy on-line payment method ?

I sell a few images on-line, now else can people order and buy from me.

I think Paypal for small payments below the gift threshold are ok.

I'm horrified at the cut Ebay takes from selling a lens and then from processing a Paypal payment. Over £70 on a recent lens I sold. Never again

Try putting the same lens into a bricks and mortar auction and see how much they take in commission....

I went through exactly the same thing earlier this year. Each time you try to resolve it online, it comes back telling you that you have to call their expensive phone number and, presumably, listen to their expensive music for a while.
I didn't rise to the bait and ignored several of their emails to call them. After about six weeks, the whole thingevaporated and the account went back to normal on its own.

My advice is to just sit tight and see what happens....which will probably be nothing.

Sent them an email to cancel the account and they've downgraded it to Premier again with apologies...
