Paypal refund question

On Monday I made a purchase from Argos and used Paypal to make the payment, then picked up the item instore. On Tuesday I returned the item and asked for a refund. Argos refunded the money to my Paypal account and gave me an A4 printout as a receipt. They seemed to think the refund would be instantaneous, but so far there is no sign of the refund in my Paypal account. Anyone have similar experience of using paypal for a non ebay purchase and subsequent refund.
 
Cheers, just looked at Paypal and everything seems set up for complaining about ebay purchases, but not using paypal for other purchases.
 
If you paid PayPal via your debit/credit card, it may have been paid direct to there?

None of the debit cards on my Paypal account were active, all expired or deactivated through replacement. Money comes straight out of my bank account as a consequence. Surely there would still be reference to the refund through the paypal account anyway.
 
I recently returned an ebay purchase, computer software with missing installation code.

eBay now seems to have an automated service and you have to tick allt the boxes as you go.

The first step is to open a return request. You then need to provide tracking details regarding the return. as I had already returned the item, I had to send another recorded letter to staisfy ebay's system

The seller then has to acknowlege receipt. On opening return request or dispute, Paypal will "earmark" funds from the seller's account for the refund
On confirmation of receipt, the funds should then be credited to your Paypal account and immediately transferred to card/bank account appearing 3 working days later
 
Is there any benefit using Paypal, rather than normal card transactions?

It wasn't an ebay purchase that I made and there is nothing on Paypal's website as regards refunds for non ebay purchases.

It was quicker for me to do as address details are given along with the payment.

but why would you use paypal to buy from argos?
paypal is like the most bent payement system basically for ebay only

I use Paypal if it is offered because I don't have to give my card details to numerous people, which, (to me anyway), reduces the scam potential.

Why?

For some merchants it is a way of avoiding scandalous monthly bank charges and machine hire charges. If only using it infrequently or at exhibitions/events it makes sense and some clients only want to pay by card.

Why is it bent? It is absolutely fine. I guess a fair few people like the pay after delivery concept as well. Or have money in there from their own selling/trading.

I can think of no reason why not to use PayPal.
 
If the original payment through PayPal was funded fully from the bank account then that would be were PayPal sent the return, IIRC in these cases the refund never shows up in your PayPal account as the money was never actually in your PayPal account.

That's how I remember it happening the few times I have been refunded on Bank Account funded transactions. It can also take about a week for the transaction to show up in your bank account as everyone involved likes to keep it for a few days for interest to be accrued, even though interest earned is negligible these days. Its left over from the days when they did earn interest.

It was fully funded from my bank account. I've messaged Paypal on Facebook and at least had a response with a few questions, now awaiting a response to my reply. I'd have still expected the refund to have shown up on my Paypal activity even if the money hadn't remained there and gone straight into my bank account or a message to say it will be transferred to my bank account within so many days.
 
A quick scan of the Paypal website seems to show refunds are 7-10 days.

I use paypal for loads of stuff, spotify, netflix, domain name hosting, in fact whenever the option is offered I will pay by paypal.

The other plus is, even if its linked to a CC they don't take a cut, like some places are starting to do again, when you use a CC, they only catch me once BTW ;)
 
Paypal refunds won't be instant if the funds haven't been taken from your bank/card in the first place. It takes a few days for them to actually take the payment before they will then send it back.
 
Personally I cannot fault PayPal. I bought an iPhone off Ebay and paid by PayPal, the phone turned out to be a stolen one and had been blocked by the service provider. I contacted PayPal and after the usual 10 day's (I think it was) of giving the seller time to return my money PayPal transferred the money into my bank account. All in all it took just 11 day's.

Money came out of my bank account within 2 days of the original purchase.
 
Well after almost two weeks, the money has finally been refunded to my Paypal account. Argos seemed to be of no help at all in the matter really, their response just seemed to be give it a while longer. Paypal via their Facebook page were very helpful however and enabled me to open up a dispute as their own website still only seems to be set up for ebay/paypal disputes and not other online purchases. Dispute was opened on Friday, refund received today. Result. :)
