Hi all.
I wonder if some one can help, I have had a paypal account for some yrs, but used it only twice in the UK, I am now trying to make a private sale to a purchaser in the USA, my problem is, do i charge an ( extra) amount to cover exchange rate, is there a percentage that paypal takes.
Can some one enlighten me please.

Paypal don't take a %age as far as I know.

Ive sent payments in dollars before now.

Paypal take a 4% fee out of anything that comes into your paypal as far as I know.

Paypal don't levy an extra fee as such for receiving funds in another currency, but their exchange rate tends to be a bit on the low side, which comes to the same thing.

Why not just quote the buyer a price in sterling and let them worry about the exchange rate?

Which is the same as any card providers as well...

Maybe the low exchange rate is based on the card companies as opposed to the exchange rate decided upon by Paypal.

For example, if there's insufiicent funds in my Paypal account, my debit/credit card is charged directly...

I bought something last year, and it was actually cheaper to choose the dollar option on the website. As I was paying by Paypal, with no extra for using a different currency, it worked out cheaper :D

Thanks for the replies.
My thoughts go to when changing a cheque in $ in my Barcleys account there is a exchange commition.or such like..
I just wondered if paypal does a similer..

For a non-UK payment you'll be charged 3.9% + 20p (0.5% more than a UK credit card funded payment), plus whatever they cream off on the exchange rate. Call it getting on for 7% in total.

Add a bit extra for a trackable postage option, for your added protection.

If you make a dollar payment via Paypal from your credit card then Paypal take the money from your card in sterling and then they do the conversion at their own rate.
