First payday after Christmas will soon be here :D I'm after a walk about lens that will start me off with landscapes too, what does anyone think about the Tamron 17-50 F2.8 non VC?? Or do you have any other recommendations?

go for it Ive got one its great :)
I use it for general landscapes and waterfall shots perfect

My son has that lens (except his is the VR version) and has been quite pleased with it. Build quality is good, and overall sharpness. Like most lenses, it takes a bit of experimenting to see where it performs best for you. Consensus on the boards seems to be that Tamron has a winner here.

I would go for it, I have the canon 17-55 and it very rarely leaves the camera
Tamron gets great reveiws and people do say the non is version is the better one

spike

Thanks for the replies ;) Any recommendations as to where to buy lenses from?? I've been looking at Park Cameras and Warehouse Express

Got one a few weeks back from wex. Great lens for the money and using for landscapes....

nothing better then the Tamron 17-50 if talking about value for money and bang for the buck.

unelss you want to spend big money on the Canon 18-55 f2.8? optic performance Tamron 17-50 can match.

Grab one and you won't regret.

I have to agree with the other comments.I have one on my Pentax K7-a big step up from the kit lens.

I got mine from one stop digital
At the time their price was the same as the going rate for a second hand one:)

Very good advice IMHO. When I got my Tamron 17-50 (non VC) lens I was not that impressed with it. But now after sometime I realise it is a very good lens.

The constant f 2.8 throughout the full focal range makes this lens very good value for money I'd say.
