Just read Gary Lineker is to take a £400,000 cut in his salary from the BBC.

I know there is the argument that something is worth whatever someone will pay.

I just feel there is something wrong when someone can take a pay cut which, using this ONS data ( https://www.ons.gov.uk/employmentan...bulletins/annualsurveyofhoursandearnings/2019) it would take a person on the median wage a little over 13 years to earn.

I do agree; it will also reduce the HMRC income by at least £80k too.

As an aside, I'm surprised he is deemed worth so much, so long after his playing career. Is he such a good commentator/correspondent?
 
I think he is a very good host and makes it watchable - that said if they put say Ian Wright in there for half the money would it make any difference? Probably not!

Certainly it seems a lot for the BBC.

But thats the way of the world - its supply and demand - I read Rankin charges up to 50k a day to shoot!!! Many people would have to work for 2 years to earn that!
 
I can only assume he has some sort of dirt on someone high in the bbc.. Every other older white male is being replaced, yet he seems to be sticking like a piece of gherkin on a bus shelter window.

He also pretty much stuck two fingers up at the new boss and nothing was done about it after he said bbc presenters shouldn’t be spouting political stuff on social media.

I thought Jenas was supposed to be replacing him, which is about 5 steps backwards as he is an idiot!
 
If they dumped him for someone who is actually a nobody and who worked for peanuts, would the football fans actually turn off?
