Im off to the Bigbury area his weekend and hoping to get to Banthan beach.
Just had a look on the website and they say the car park is locked at 9pm is that the case?
Where else can you park if thats the case?
Tide wise what is he best high or low?

Many thanks

Nowhere. If the gate by the hut is locked, you're stuffed. And don't park up in the turning point right in front of the hut and wander off ... it's a shooting offence. It's the only place emergency vehicles can turn around. Regarding your query about the tide ... best for what?

I was hoping for some exposed rock formations, thanks for the info Stuart. So if Iparked in the car park do they normally lock the gates?

Times can vary so if I were you stop and ask the bloke in the hut as you drive in. Bantham beach is largely sandy although there are some rocky clusters at the north end of the beach furthest away from the car park ... you'll have to go and have a look yourself to see if it's the sort of thing you're looking for. High tide at Bantham over the weekend is about half an hour either side of midday.

Thanks Stuart, I saw some photos on flicks with some nice rock formations. I have a look during the day like you suggest, might have to find somewhere else with regard to the lack of parking.

Its currently about three quid to park. if parking is closed you can park in the village (who's name I forget) on the otherside of the headland and walk in on the coast path across the golf course - make sure you stay on the path though as the green keepers get seriously p***ed otherwise. In terms of locations for photography there are nice shots to be had from a little further up the avon valley looking back towards bantham with the estuary as a leading line , the boat houses etc in the foreground and bigbury island in the distance. (thi works best at high tide)

Btw Bantham is currently for sale , the national trust are trying to buy it to ensure it stays open to the public but who will ultimately get it remains an open question. http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/get...peal/?campid=PPC_Central_Bantham_Grants_Brand

According to the local news, Bantham's been sold to a family rather than the NT.
