Background is at the end of June I ordered some bits from RRS in the States. The order was sent to me, by US mail. On 11 July got a letter from Parcel Force asking for some import charges and handling fee to be paid. Went online to the Parcelforce website, entered the reference number from their letter, paid the charges and had a email reply saying that the order would be delivered on 14 July. So far so good. :)

Waited in all day 14 July and - you guessed nothing. Called the delivery depot who advised that they had not received it yet from Coventry. When asked when it would be delivered the reply was 'don't know yet'. 4 days later, after numerous telephone calls to them, the Manager at the local depot finally confirmed them they had not had the parcel delivered to them but also it could not be traced in Coventry. She would however be sending me via email a claim form which I should pass to the supplier so that they could instigate a claim.

At the same time I was assured that despite the initial letter, claim form, and payment receipt all coming with ParcelForce letter heading the fault was not within ParcelForce but UK Customs. When asked about the charge I had paid I was advised that this would be refunded back to my credit card.

I sent RRS, explained what had happened, and they replaced the order at no additional cost but sent via UPS as they were not keen to resend using ParcelForce.

48 hours later the order was in my hands and I was a happy bunny - paying a 2nd import duty and VAT was annoying but well ParcelForce was refunding the original charges.

End of matter :nono: 22nd August, got a letter from ParcelForce asking for Import charges and handling Fee to be paid. Whilst the charge amount was the same as I had previously paid the reference number was different and I had no more overseas orders coming in to me. I therefore disregarded this letter.

A few days later I received my credit card statement. On it was the original import charges showing as being paid to Parcelforce but as for the refund :nono: I therefore advised the card company regarding that charge, explained what happened, and they have credited that charge back to my account.

End of matter :nono: Yesterday received a letter from ParcelForce, advising that if I did not pay the required charge the item would be returned to the sender. The reference number was yet another one but the amount was as the original.

I telephoned them to query the letter, was told that the 3rd reference number was wrong but the 2nd number was correct and on further checking was able to confirm that this related to the original reference number and I was asked how did I want to pay the charges.

I asked to speak to the depot manager who had dealt with the original missing package who, on reminding her of the original issue and on her checking her notes, confirmed that the charges had been paid and asked when did I want it delivered.

As I had also explained that the supplier had already replaced the order I was advised that the order would be returned back to RRS as I had refused to accept delivery. In addition I was advised that despite the original order have been lost, 3 different reference numbers for the consignment being issued this problem was nothing to do with ParcelForce. Additionally I was advised that I should claiming the import charges back from RRS as they had placed a claim for the missing order.

Again even though this charge was originally paid to ParcelForce it was nothing to do with them.

Therefore this little rant is how ParcelForce manage to misplace the consignment for several weeks and claim it is nothing to do with them. :bang:

Great story. But at least you got your stuff. :-)

Now you know why they get called ParcelFarce.

That is bad news. I am sorry that you have had problems.

In the past, I have found parcelforce to not be too bad, within the UK.
When items have been imported, I usually get the letter through saying about charges, and that I can pay for them when I collect the item. I am surprised that this did not happen to you. At least you can ask to see the item before paying the charge. I do find their surcharge a bit extreme though.

Moved from Talk Equipment to OOF as it's not related to Equipment.

Sorry to hear you had the problems. Sounds like it was a nightmare. :(

Over the years I've dealt with pretty much all the big players in courier services and they're all about as bad as each other. They just don't seem to understand customer service :shake:

The only courier service I will use now is UPS they have always outshone the rest otherwise its guaranteed next day by RM which is very good but well overpriced

Too right - but no thanks to ParcelForce :D

Unfortunately the Coventry depot, where the goods arrive into the UK, is some 150 miles away and they won't send the item to my local depot, 30 miles away, until the import charges and their handling charge is paid.

No problem on the thread move - it was debatable where it should be posted.

It's the attitude that leaves me speechless - the fact that all the documentation I have had in respect of this package was from ParcelForce, and payment was made to ParcelForce, yet when they are unable to locate and deliver it it is nothing to do with them. Furthermore it is now being returned to RRS because I will not accept delivery and therefore implying that I am at fault and they are just an reputable courier company attempting to do their contracted delivery.

The only courier service I will use now is UPS they have always outshone the rest otherwise its guaranteed next day by RM which is very good but well overpriced

Over the years I have experienced most of the courier companies and all have demonstrated the ability to screw-up. Some more than others but this one is starting to become an outstanding example of incompetence.

That's the strange thing. Whenever I have had a parcel charged with customs charges, parcelforce have paid on my behalf, then charged me £8 for the privelege. The parcel was then available at my local depot (doesn't sound like your local depot is that local to you though).

My local depot is 30 miles away and the usual procedure on all previous imports is that ParcelForce send an advice letter confirming the VAT, import duty if over £118.00 and a clearance fee of £13.50. Once that is paid the goods are released to the local depot who then deliver. Interesting about charging £8 as my paperwork, for this and other US imports, has always show £13.50. This appears to be a fixed fee irrespective of the amount of VAT and import duty charged.
