Paper Negative 2 - Barney 0

Tried this and it has created far too many problems that would take ages for me to pin down.

First exposure developed in Rodinal 1:50 for five minutes turned out totally black.
Second exposure in same rodinal 3:30 grey and black swirly swipes.

I found the rise/fall, swing and focus relatively simple so am going straight to foma film tomorrow. I will take test shots in a room next to the darkroom so I can develop them one at a time. Hopefully might get three or four shots.

I develop paper negatives for 1 minute in Ilford Multigrade paper developer diluted 1:19. Paper developer is stronger than film developer so requires shorter develop times.

I did accidentally develop them in HC110 once, for one minute, and the result was useable.

If you do decide to try again with paper negs, you probably have the ingredients to make a paper developer. There are some formulae on @Ian Grant's website, http://www.lostlabours.co.uk/photography/formulae/formulae.htm. I'm recently begun using ID-78.

From your other posts seems you are starting your large format journey? Paper negs can be great, Id stick with a cheap box of foma just to get use to everything that comes with LF, putting camera together, taking a shot, putting camera away etc.

I've dreams of 11x14 paper negatives ones day
