paper can't open images

Hi I have just had my local paper tell me that they cannot open the football photos i sent them.They had to open in adobe photoshop, I also sent them to a friend and he said the same. This is new to me .I am using a Mac and just upgraded to Lion, so maybe this is where the fault is .Has anyone got any ideas
 
Can you look at the properties of the images.

Do they have the .jpg extension?
 
I have named them 1a .jpg etc, they are big files as they wanted a poster size prints
 
Is that a space before the .jpg?

If so remove it and try again.

I'll pm you my email address. Send one to me. I'll try with and without the space.

Which software are you using & describe your workflow.

Alan just email me one.

I think the problem is that he is inserting them in to the email rather than attaching them. Some email clients don't like an inserted image.

I could save the image and open it in any photo viewer.

So I suggest he tried again as an attachment and let us know how he gets on.

I am using a Mac, photomechanic then p/s elements, save the "file as" then put in folder. Open up email write something and go over to the right hand side to paper clip(attachments) and find photo i want then pick "choose file".then send.Only started this problem when i went from Leopard to Lion
 
An even better solution would be to get them to give you FTP upload access to cut out all the faffing around!
 
I agree Mark - but it would also be good to find the solution.

It may be a Lion "issue".

I agree, problem was highlighted when i sent a photo to the manager of club.The weekend sub ed of paper soon got round the problem and used the images, but don't want hassle in future.

Also, if he is sending from a Mac, make sure he ticks the box that says 'Send Windows-Friendly Attachments

If you're still trying to get to the bottom of it then send me one by email and I can have a look. Your email client shouldn't be doing anything to the files. What email client are you using, and do you know what they tried to open them with that didn't work?
 
I am thinking that it must be something else as I remembered i had Microsoft office and sent 2x 4mb files with outlook ex and they said the same thing.
 
Can you send the photos from a different PC/Mac and see what happens.
 
I sent one of the saved files on my macbook, with the same result.
 
Also a Lion user, no endemic problems sending images here.

Just check they are .jpg and not .jpeg

I've been caught out by that one before.

I have checked that they are .jpg, I have been told that they have sent ok if they are below 5mb,anything above and they embed into email.
 
I have the same issue since upgrading to Lion and still haven't found out why.
