She ask me to take a panoramic of her view from her balcony. I said OK and this is what I ended up with.

Just at 45mm ish about 20 photos stitched together by Panoramic Factory. She then tells me thats not what she wants. She doesn't want the curve either end, and obvious the road down at the bottom isn't curved like that. I explained that's what you get when I do a pan because of the focal length. I could crop it/zoom in so it doesn't curve as much but then the view will be "less" there to see.

She ask me if I can go to one side of the balcony, take a picture, move to the side take another and repeat until I get to the other side of the balcony. I explained that won't work because I am moving 30 feet of balcony to get in a view about 20 miles wide.

I am correct in this instance? Right ?

But is it possible to take a pano without the curve or minimise it as much as possible?

This is the view.

I don't think so Ray. The change in perspective as you pan around with the camera is what causes the apparent bending, and the more shots you stitch, the worse it will appear.

You could do selective straightening etc in PS but by the time you finished cropping you'd have no image left?

Unless there's some high end software which will do the job I think you're snookered.

Nip down to B&Q buy some two-by-fours and build a frame the length of her balcony then sit her down and say there you are sis! :)

which form of perspective correction did you use in panorama factory? It can make a difference to the final appearance of the shot.

Dxo can do some clever stuff defishing fish eyes but I dont think it could get what you sister wants.
