I used dcraw to make a tiff from an RW2, then I used CS5 to do the same thing. Why is the image generated by dcraw curved at the edges? (The first image here is the one from dcraw. Both have been converted to jpg to reduce file size).

Thanks in advance for your help.

Looking at the enlarged versions it's easier to see what you are talking about. The CS5 is showing a slight pincushion effect (though this may be present in the original) and the dcraw image is definitely showing signs of barrel distortion by comparison.

Don't now why that should be the case though. Sorry.

Thanks for your reply scarecrow - you have set me on the right track. I didn't know the term "barrel distortion". After further investigation it seems that photoshop [camera raw] corrects for barrel distortion but dcraw is a pure raw converter and does not do any corrections. The camera (in my case a GF1) also corrects for barrel distortion when producing jpgs. I guess that means that, for the time being, I will have to be content with Adobe Camera Raw doing the conversion.
