Yes
I've got 40D and wouldn't swap it for the world, love it, love canon, so when it came to chosing a compact camera for a christmas present i instantly thought canon!

But....

Have been to loads of shops and the canon's are so tiny! I like the Ixus is 100 as it has HD video and HDMI port but its so small I think it will be hard for a fella with larger fingers to use. I want a pocket camerma but it doesn't need to be ultra thin like the canons seem to be.

A few people have suggested Panosonic instead and the TZ7 has the same HD Movies and also 12 x zoom which is ideal but i'm worried as to whether the picture quality will be the same, are the lenses any good?

Anyone got a panasonic?

If you don't mind spending the cash, have a look at a Canon G11, or a used G10 or G9 - satisfyingly chunky, and a good second camera for a Canon DSLR user :)

A.

I have a panasonic FX150 and I'm truly blown away with the perfermance for a point and shoot, it also has manual and raw capability, this one only has 3.6x zoom but with 14mp has the ability to crop. TZ7 came out top over the canon in a DP review.

Thanks, I did look at these but unfortunately its a bit over budget. Ideally I'd like it to be under £200. I think the TZ7 is a little more but not much.

Plus as Its a gift and not for me I need to be careful it doesn't look like i've only brought it as a back up for myself

I've just been reading about the canon WB550.... good zoom, HD, 3" screen, chucky but still pocket size. Might take a look at that next time i'm in Jessops.

Thanks, this looks good..

This sounds like a pretty good spec and good reviews, plus only £149 from Play.com. I like the size of it and its a wide angle right? How is it with Video? I'm assuming it has sound? I thinks its only samsung that seem to miss off the sound.

Well, I had a Panasonic FZ18 which got me started in digital photography and went to fund Canon lenses and other "full-on" DSLR stuff. I'd say it was as good as all the reviews suggested. For me the only downside was that compared to true compacts it was relatively bulky.

I have a TZ7, generally a really good camera, excellent zoom range, good I/Q particularly at ISO80, but I REALLY mis not being able to take control of the shutter speed. Also have a couple of Canon A720IS (as well as a 40D), that's how good they are I've got two, I think it's like a cheaper version of the G series, full manual control, using AA batteries, think if I had to let one go, It'd be the TZ7, you can't have my A720's :)

Yes it has sound, only tried a few seconds on 720 mode and its not bad a little grainy perhaps, its quite a compact little thing but feels very solid with the all metal construction.
