I have been using the LX100 for one week now and I love that camera. It is not perfect, but it shows some character and it is a great camera overall. Here are some pictures. If you want to see more and see video, head over to my blog: http://www.mirrorlessjourney.com/blog/2014/11/my-first-week-with-the-panasonic-dmc-lx100-1

Been reading your posts on mu43, Eric - really enjoying them. Had a brief try in the store last weekend and liked the feel of it. There's a few things missing for my liking ( and a few too many £s on the price at the moment too :) )

What did you think was missing? I'm about to take the plunge without handling one. Risky perhaps, I grant.

A great read on your blog. Looks like a great camera. How easy was it to pull focus in video mode and get the focusing spot on for action scenes such as the baby photo shoot?

The Lumix G3 with the 20mm I currently use can be a tad frustrating for home videos as the lens is so small. The focus ring on the LX100 looks similar.

Does the lens hunt for focus in auto video mode?

The focus pulling on the baby video was with the GH4 and 75mm. Focus pulling with the LX100 would be near impossible without something to help. The focusing ring is just too small and you could move the Aperture ring if you are not careful. It could be done with a kind of Tie-wrap and a little stick. Otherwise, it's too easy to move the aperture ring at the same time. I have not tested the AF in video mode yet. I don't know if it would hold on a moving subject. I tested it a little bit and it gets the focus fast, but as every CDAF camera, it goes just a tad deeper and come back to focus. I tried focus pulling with the phone in touch focus, but it focus by step instead of continuously so it's not usable. Maybe you could use the manual focusing of the phone app to do it though. It's another thing I have to had to my testing list... lol.

As for what I am missing? The Tilting LCD and Touch Focusing. You get used to that so fast. Someone let a comment on my blog that I did not think about for my macro shots of the water droplets: using the phone to compose the shot and setting the focus point. The camera is easily usable with one hand so when you go way overhead or really close to the ground, it could be a good solution (especially when it's really wet like it was). Other things? If you want to be picky, you could say a mic jack but I'm not sure where they could fit that in.

@braddersmd for me, a tilting and touch screen would be ideal. The camera itself feels great and I guess that Panasonic have to leave something for the next version :)

The tilting screen would have made it a bit bigger too I guess. For the touch screen, there is a positive point out of this: the battery last a lot longer than on my GX7. ;)

Good point...which leaves a lack of reach when compared to the g7x

I have an xf1 which is 25-100 but the lx100 is much shorter with less resolution that the rx100 and g7x. As I quite often crop my xf1 images, I'm wondering how the lx100 fares against the g7x / rx100

Surely what matters is how much you crop, how big you want your final image to be and how you view it.

For example I can do 100% + crops of my G1 images and they look lovely when fully filling my monitor display.

These days many people rarely print, it ever... and many images are shared electronically 1000 - 2000 pixels wide, if that. Personally if looking at a LX100 resolution wouldn't be top of my things to worry about list. If you want to crop heavily and print to A3 and view from 1ft away you may need to think again.

Good point, Alan - I rarely print. I'm just trying to make the right decision in my tiny mind. And of course, any of these are going to be a step up from the xf1 ( which I love shooting with by the way )

Maybe at some point some LX100 files will be available to download, or maybe someone here could send you a file. Once armed with a file you can crop away and see if it's adequate.

I have a GX7 and I think that the LX100 wont be too far away from that... but if the G1 is good enough, file size wise for me I don't think that I personally would worry about the LX100.

PS. I've just printed an image! :D I average less than one a week :D

For the current owners, do any of you know how to set a minimum shutter speed when working with Auto ISO? I've had a play around with the settings, and a look in the manual, but cannot seem to see that anywhere. Hope someone can help. TIA

@Mirrorless Journey Thanks for your information regarding the focusing on the LX100. I did primarily want it for video but it seems this may not work as intended compared to the bigger GH4 / 5DMK3 type cameras. I wanted to capture home events and family trips and use it as a B-Cam where possible.

Sorry but it can't be done nor on any other Panasonic bodies I own.

I might have to run some more tests. I did some C-AF small clips and I was surprised.
