Hi all,

I am looking for some advice/opinions, if possible.

I already have a DSLR, but am thinking about getting the New Panasonic Lumix DMC G2.

Does anyone have one? If so, are the quality of images as good as a DSLR?

Would you recommend buying one?

Thanks

Andy

I've never used a G2 but I do have a G1 which is the earlier model. IQ is very good - kit lenses are very sharp. They also work very well with pretty much any old MF lenses, some of which are mega bargains.

The main disadvantages are the low light performance isn't great (though not terrible either) and the AF isn't as fast as a DSLR

I wouldn't replace a DSLR with one, but the bonus is you can get an adaptor that will allow you to use pretty much all your lenses in manual focus mode.

G2 is overpriced and has useless gimmicks, G1 with 14-45mm £299 at Park Cameras for the next few days.
Check out tests at DP review.

I use one as a (baggy) pocket cam with 20mm f1.7 - superb.

NB the £299 price is for the body only:)

I think that all cameras are overpriced when they first come on the market the G2 being no different to any others. What was the price of the G1 when it was first introduced? It was more than £299 I'm sure.

Useless gimmicks ????????????? such as? What is seen as not needed and therefore a gimmick by some are often a boon to others.

Yep, agree with Sandiman . . . Animated viewing screen is at the top of my list . . .

There are loads that I dont want or use on my cameras, (G1/D5000) video for instance . . . does that make them gimmicky???

Horses for courses . . . I'm old'ish, cant get down low these days, a pop out screen makes all the difference
