Panasonic i.Dynamic, is it worth it?

Yes
I have always had it turned off, same with the i.Resolution, but I think I'm going to leave it on for a while.

I took two photos within seconds of each other, first with it off and then on, and then auto level adjusted each one.

There is a pleasant difference between on and off, and with it on and then auto adjust, it is quite nice. With it off and auto adjust, the colours are not accurate.

It's certainly bought out the detail.

Are you shooting raw or JPEG? If raw, I would switch it off. If JPEG, you should probably have it switched on. It is simply Panasonic's implementation of dynamic tone curve/highlight/shadow treatment. Other brands have an equivalent feature with a different name.

It wouldn't really make any difference switching it of if shooting raw as it has no effect on the Raw images anyway

Yes, what surprised me was it did so better than post does.
I have the sharpening and noise reduction turned right down on the camera.

It can have an effect on the exposure. And the chosen exposure affects the raw files.

Not according to any of the write-ups or any videos I've seen, nor do Panasonic's descriptions mention it.

I prefer the originals, I’m not a fan of raising shadows too much as it starts to look artificial to my eyes. It does appear to have affected the overall exposure though and not just the shadows as the skies are brighter with iDynamic on.
