I noticed a site that appeared to be using one of my images from flickr. When I visited the site I found a panaromio API/Widget which was basically rolling through images based on the the location of this sites content which happens to be a tourist/holiday site.

You can see what I mean at the site.. http://www.world-stay.com/en/gb/grampian/buckie/ and by clicking the tourist info tab. This seems to be linking to my flickr image.

Should I be worried by this.. Is panaramio some affiliate of flickr.. and should this site be able to use my photo (an other peoples) without them even realising?

Thanks

Graeme

I can't see a problem with what they're doing!
I've found quite a few of mine being used like this. Usually they are pulling the pics from a flickr group.

Cant see any images in the link. Not sure on the panoramio connection either. They are owned by google and flickr by yahoo....so I would be suprised if there was a link. Is it not the Flickr API showing your photos? if so I believe altering your settings and possible creative commons license should stop that.

I'm assuming your images are on Flickr using a licence with prohibits commercial use.

If it's gleaning images via Flickr's API

In their turn, their API ToS state

I'm somewhat surprised if they are getting images from Flickr via Panoramio, as that's owned by Google, who are in direct competition with Yahoo! (who own Flickr) though I suppose it's possible using some of the API mods I've seen.

It certainly opens a can of worms for all parties if that is the case. Flickr's API prohibits commercial use (and advertising is a clear commercial use) but this is then 'laundered' via another API with less restrictive terms.

Ultimately, it's the responsibility of the end-use website to ensure it's acting in accordance with your rights. Google disclaim any responsibility to Panoramio subscribers in their API ToS.

Thanks for that link, i was only searching for posts containing panarmio.. but that one is usefull.

If you click on the tourist tab in that page you will see that API, definitely a panarmio.

Thank you for taking that time to dig up that info.. i was getting in a muddle and couldn't really find straight answers.

I'm starting to wonder I have actually submitted the images to panoramio at one point and just forgotten, it's the sort of thing I would do.

This is one of the images on my flickr page.. I have never adjusted copyright I just leave it as all rights reserved. My Flickr image

Whenever my images are shown the "Image supplied by panoramio disappears and it does not say who took the image.. nor does it link to my flickr page. The image however is directly read from flickr.
