Nikon produce a 200-500 f/5.6 VR ED for £1,170
Lovely wife treats me by ordering one from Amazon for £1,048 delivered - they can't deliver until December 16... possibly!
Jessops, Wex and all the others can't tell me when they can get one. Oh and it'll be £1,170.
Then, I found Panamoz on google. Checked them out, contacted them, they promised they could deliver within 4-6 days. Good oh! I ordered the lens from Panamoz on Monday lunchtime, paid by PayPal and guess what? It arrived today via TNT and all for £993 delivered. The item is exactly as you'd get it in this country - if you could that is - and in perfect working order. BIG shout for Panamoz. Thanks guys!
It comes to something when you can buy a lens and get it delivered from Hong Kong for £177.00 less and a whole month earlier than you can in this country.
One is a happy bunny! :)

Panamoz have a very good reputation on this forum. Never tried them myself (yet) but they always come up with the goods and never a bad word about them.

Must admit I was a bit unsure until I saw the number of good posts about them in here and that they took PayPal. I will definitely be using them again.

interesting , how does it compare performance wise with the sigma 150-500 OS ?

cant see why anyone would have anything negative to say tbh I think it is a top lens

whats hes referring too is the grey import conversation (pretty much like we had on another thread but with more antipathy) - personally I CBA with that anymore , the facts are all out there and its up to the inddividual . These days I only get involved in that discussion if anyone has actual questions about how it works.

that aside you are right it looks like a top lens - I'd be interested in what it has over the sigma (which is about £750 uk price) as although I shoot canon, my wife is a nikon shooter

Ah I see sorry went totally over my head lmao tbh its personal choice if you save money and know its a import you take your chances if its grey and your sold it is a non import then that is not right providing you know what your getting and save money all good

Can't say. I've read a few reviews on it and it compares well from what's said. I wanted something longer than my 300 f/4.0 to have a crack at the fast jets at Mach Loop, WHEN I get the chance to go up there again, and I want to try and keep my kit all Nikon. Yeah, I know I'm anal, OCD, etc. but...
Its a big beastie though. It makes my D800 look tiny.

you werent tempted by the 200-400 f4 then  (my father in law has that one and I have to say its a truly epic lens ... thought at 4.5k so it should be)

and thats the reduced price - it was 6.5k at launch

Pete, there are a few comparison posts in the 200-500 thread which might be of interest to you (or your wife, anyway!)

Drool........................lens envy................:D

crikey 6.5k is it made of gold lmao............ I know it is a gr8 lens have heard of it but seriously that a serious cost

yep agreed I'm a canon shooter cant understand the cost of that one either maybe its me being a skin flint I tried the sigma bazooka at the photography show and I'm sure the guy told me it was close to 20k CRAZY! lol

Being f4 makes it more expensive (more glass) , also high quality glass , and it was made specifically to twin with the 1DX so its top end kit ( I tried one on a course once and its a truly fantastic set up, but I can't justify about 14k)

If you want really silly money theres a Canon 1200mm which is close to $100k :runaway:

I just wonder who uses 14k and 100k lenses don't get me wrong I love kit and spending £££ on it but you would have to earn some serious cash from your camera to justify or am I just being tight lol?

I don't think anyone realistically uses the 1200mm or the sigmonster ( I did hear about customs using one to spy on a drug lord) , but the 8k lens 6k !DX combination is pretty extensively used by pro wildlife shooters - its Andy Rouse's weapon of choice for example. (we better let Richard have his thread back)

hahahah yes we better nice chatting mate ;-) enjoy your new toy richard

Hey don't worry guys. The more you chat the more I can tell 'er indoors what a bargain this lens was. :)

I guess the £177 is nearly 20%. I wonder why UK stock is 20% more

love to see someone review the 2 Sigmas, the Tamron and the Nikon together

Funnily enough i just bought the Sigma 150-600mm C as for the price i paid (grey import) it was nearly half the price of the Nikon, and i don't think the Nikon is twice as good as the Sigma C

I think that comes under the diminishing returns, twice the price will not be twice as good but be honest if the sigma is good the nikon only needs to be better.

True enough i suppose, but from all the images i have seen i still don't think it's worth double the price tag, IMO of course

I can see your logic but to me buying anything other than a Nikon lens would be like putting re-treads on a Jaguar. You just don't do it!

To be fair, I think you are givng 3rd party lens a massive disservice comparing them to retreads, but each to their own I guess

More like putting non manufacturer specified tyres on - and some specialist tyres are better than standard ;) (but yes i get your point)
