Right, I was bored last night and decided to have a go at light painting the new car while I waited for the mrs to finish her shift.

Now it's not anywhere near as good as I wanted, ie I basically used an off camera flash to selectively light sections of the car per exposure then pasted them all together and using masks ended up with one picture.

So, the question is, what would be better for light painting than a flashgun, Im wondering about some sort of led video light as it would get a consistant light?

As you can see there's patches of the car, especially the doors that almost look mottled, for want of a better word.

Anyway, any thoughts or advice welcome

I don't really do the car light painting side of things though I'll give it a go from time to time..your really seen the advise of the guys that are at the top of there game at this of which there are a few on here..AndWhyNot, PGD? etc

But what I'll say is that this is a bit patchy..I would suggest that you focus on painting a part of the car, perfect that and then move on to the rest :) also would I be right in saying you only did one flash per exposure, you really need more than that...

This is from ages ago now, but this was a single exposure light painted with a flash gun like you did here only difference is that you've done multiple exposures and blended it ;)

To get this I fired the flash maybe 25 times, multiple times from different parts of the car, it's far from perfect hopefully the car light painting guys will be along to unload there vast knowledge on you shortly

You're spot on, I did one flash per exposure then blended, hence the patchiness. It just never actually occured to me to do one long on and flash multiple times, not sure why.

I think I thought I'd do one at a time to check each exposure and try to ensure I had covered all parts I needed to? Which obviously didn't work LOL.

Liking that one of yours though and you may not do it often but its miles better than mine!

I'll do some more searching for the guys on here and maybe contact them.
