Ok so Im up to my eyes in processing at the moment, so Im probably missing something really obvious here.
Anyway, when I click the text icon in CS2 to try to add my copyright to a pic, all I get is a little square on the pic instead of the usual flashing vertical bar that I can then type the text with.
I do get a text box in the layers pallette but cant type the text, its only happening on one photo, I can work as normal on others ... anyone any ideas on what Im doing wrong here?

The only thing I can think of Off the top of my head
Have you split or created a "new layer"
if so are you "on" the right one

Thanks for looking in Chris.
Ive tried flattening all layers and saving the image, then opening it up again and clicking on the text icon.
This usually gives me a new text layer in the layer pallette and and thus allows me to type on the image ... but with this image ... I cant! :bang:

I had a bit of a weird one awhile back where I couldn't get the "crop tool" it just went to the pointer
I re-booted and it worked fine apart from that I'm stumped Glo sorry.............

Ive tried the rebooting thing too ... still the same!
I seem to have found a connection but not sure if its just coincidence.
All the pics Im having problems with were batch converted to JPEGS from RAW files.
Adding text to all other JPEGS works ok

couple of possible things.......may be miles off.

The text layer, is it on the top of the layers pallet? it could be hidden under your image.

Check your text coulour isnt the same colour as the background, this would mean you cant see what you are typing.

when you type, are you able to see what you have typed next to the text layer (in the pallet)

when you create a text layer, try turning off all the other layers to see if you get anything (click on the 'eye' of each layer other than the text layer)

hope this helps a bit.

Hi Lee, thanks for your suggestions, I have tried all of the above ...

when you type, are you able to see what you have typed next to the text layer (in the pallet)

If I click the text layer in the layers pallette, then yes the text I typed onto the image pops up in there, but I cant see how to get that over to the image.

Im probably missing something really obvious here... but Im damned if I know what it is!

its definately a strange one, The text is being recorded as you can see in in the layers pallette, so you could check the opacity slider on that layer, if that is at 5% you wouldnt see the text, other than that i am unsure what to suggest. If you right click the text icon, it is on "horizontal type tool" isnt it? hhmmmm

Have you tried changing the font size?

Thanks guys ... Ive tried both your suggestions.
Im a ditzy mare at the best of times so am thinking it is 'user error' somewhere, just cant figure out where.
Considering the above, I sent the pics to DF ... and he has the same problem with them!

I cant help but think it is something to do with the way in which the pic has been converted, or something to do with the layers Ive created somewhere in my processing.
However, surely a flattened JPEG shouldnt have these issues! :shake:

Well that's just weird.

Have you tried creating a new blank image (to the same pixel dimensions) and then using the text tool on that?

If this works, for a quick fix you could type your copyright info onto that file, jpeg it and then merge the 2 images?

other than that - well it's not something that I've come across before (but would love to tinker with the image if you send it to me - to see if I can figure out the problem)

Make sure the Type tool is reset by clicking on the little drop down arrow to the right of the 'T' icon on the top tool bar. It just may be that your text is holding a state from a previous document and is too large for the text box, hence you can't see it.

Window/Character

Another thing to ensur is that on the 'character' palette, the baseline shift is set to zero as this can also cause your text to be hidden.

One more thing on the 'character' palette, click on the dropdown arrow to the right and select 'Reset Character'

Try those and see if any of those are the problem.
