Is there a particular specific name for this style of overlay affect as seen here on the main background images - http://trygarminvirb.co.uk/ - the small dot grid. If I was looking for templates what might they be called.

I suppose it would be called something like 'dot array'. This page describes how to achieve a similar pattern in Photoshop - link.
The website in your link has combined the pattern, text and product images into one layer (the top layer, which is scrollable) - and the action images are all on another layer beneath.

It looks a bit like a halftone dot screen used in printing.
Yes I don't need to know how the particilar web site has done this, I want to apply to an image and flatten it and would ideally like a template that has already been made.
Yes halftone gives a similar effect but not quite really.

Yes thanks. I can do it in photoshop but they never look the same. I just wanted the easy option and select from templates if they have them.
I think it's a case of playing around with the pixel size so it matches your master image.
The dots they chosen here (3rd screenshot down) measure 2x2 pixels but that's just for their pic.
I just tried it and 2x2 works well for a pic that's 1920 on the longest side - but the grid is almost invisible on a pic that's (say) 4500 on the longest side. A 4500 pic needs something like 8x8.

Yes different images need different sizes . I think some have different opacity for each pixel too sometimes. I will look at those links in detail and maybe try them. Thanks.
