South-East England Our new house

What was the point of this photo? Technically its not very good and not very well exposed.

Its a nice house........

Please explain what is technically wrong with it? just saying"Technically its not very good and not very well exposed". Isn't much help
There is no point to it other than taking a photo of our new house
By the way, this is the only angle where one can get the house and garage all in one shot

It looks like the flash was left on and over exposing the car!

It's a very, very average photo.

Oh we are just posting average photos of our houses; can I post mine?

If you look carefully, you can see my reflection in one of the windows.

I think possibly this forum is not meant for just posting random photos of the houses we live in.

Gerard nice house but painting all that white front must be a nightmare. I don't see any reason why we can't post pictures of our houses on here unless one is ashamed to show theirs. i actually find it interesting in the different house designs, make a change from pictures of structures and palaces etc. I had to use flash the time the picture was taken to get a more overall light/dark balance, yes there are as in back of car a bit bright but car number plates are designed to reflect anyway.

I hope Caleb can give a few tips on how it can be improved as he has the technical knowledge

Even a thread called this is my house would be interesting

Nothing is straight in the shot, the verticals arn't vertical and the horizontals arn't horizontal, and the entire shot has the pincushion effect. I don't think having the garage open actually adds anything apart from showing a Freelander. By squatting down and getting a flatter point of view you also wouldn't have clipped the chimney. Maybe if you took a step backwards as well you might have got the whole side of the house in as well.

As I said, its a nice house but not a great photo, if you go on rightmove there are millions of photos just like it.

congrats on the new house, i hope there are many happy memories to come!

Looks like a nice house but by posting here (as a location) are you suggesting we might all drop round?
If so, please give post code and put the kettle on:naughty:

He just wants to show off his big new house :) Cant say I blame him, nice house :)

it has taken a life time of work to be able to afford something like this , 54 year to be exact, plus the years my wife has put in as well. Ok it was not to produce the most technically correct photo and yes maybe a little repositioning of the camera , although that would have been near impossible to go back further or use a wider angle lens. Wide angle lens do tend to make perpendiculars slope inwards anyway and one is not looking at it head on but to one side. But I take your point Caleb and remember all you said was something to think about. I normally shoot wildlife and doing architecture is a new departure for me, So thank you for your reply.

Also thank you all for your kind remarks, this I think will be our last move having done it 4 times before now time to settle down. Just got to get a few thing the way we want them and sort out a few issues left by the previous owners.

I would love to have fellow members visit. I would only charge £10 entrance fee and for that you get a cup of tea/coffee and shown both the East and West wings of the property. Souveniers will be available at a later date and photos allowed on payment of a fee. Car parking quite reasonable at £2 per 4 hour day. Garden access is £5 so not expensive

Well I have to make money somehow now we are retired

If I altered and included the workshope into one building I could get 6 cars in it. I have already been approach to store a boat in it and someone else wanted the back part for car spraying as it can be sectioned off with the huge internal doors half way down. The previous owner had a 20ft camper van in the back part alone. Total length is 46 ft and 20 ft wide. What a fantastic studio space that would make! if only "er indoors" would allow

Fair play, as I said before its a lovely house and as we are currently living amidst a sea of boxes ready for our second full house move I appreciate its never a tranquil time.

If you shoot raw, when you launch in photoshop or lightroom you can also import the lens profile which generally helps "un-puff" the image and gets everything a lot closer to being square.
