OS Maps subscription

Yep, looks good. For anyone who just wants to print sections of OS maps it can be done from Bing Maps for free.

Thats not a bad deal considering how expensive they've been in the past. I'm lucky I have an old version of Memory Map plus all the UK and europe maps. Good fun is for $20 I can load them all on my phone.

Will have to try that, I thought Bing would not print the OS maps

I thought if you bought the map you get the digi version free?

I've been a subscriber since January. Used it a few times. Nice that you can download parts of a map for offline use.
Actually used this weekend for a walk we did in the Brecons.

You used to be able to plot routes on your PC but there was no way to sync those routes to your mobile devices but the latest update has now fixed that.
Very handy to plot a route on the big screen then pick it up on your phone. Also has the ability to save to .GPX for your GPS device.

I use it when planning some of my walking/climbing trips. The combination of this, Google Earth and various other tools means we can get really quite accurate 3D data of anywhere in the UK. I typically need 10-15 different OS maps a year so this works out a lot cheaper than buying individual Explorers. Although there's no substitute on some trips for having a big laminated Explorer to refer to...

Quite agree! Especially in a 50 mph gale.

I use Mapyx Quo on my computer, just buy the tiles you need for your fav areas or as you need them.

I've used it for some years. They usually offer a discount on renewal too. They've changed it recently so that the free version offers less - previously doing screenshots was almost as useful ;-) . The OS maps for the phone are good value too if buying one of the bundles though they do take up a fair bit of memory.

Windows only I see; is there an equivalent (or near equivalent) on Mac?

Garmin do a Mac compatible software as do Routebuddy who do OS and Harvey Maps.
I have never used either of them (well, I have used Garmin in the past) so cannot tell you anything about them.
There does seem to be a lack of mapping for the Mac though.

I've been using digital OS maps for years now. I started off with the CD maps and have the whole country covered.
One of my reasons for not going to a Mac is that OS maps have never been compatible with that system. I'd be surprised if that changes in the short term.

Had a quick look at the Routebuddy web site; looks more into GPS stuff than maps per se, but maybe I don't understand what these mapping apps can do!

Not sure what you mean, but I've been using OS Maps on a Mac for years. You did have to install MS Silverlight which ISTR was not available on all browsers.
