Ordered is 24-105mm... I hope this was the right thing to do!!!????

Hi all

Some of you might know i've been debating upgrading from my trusty 28-135 to a 24-105mm for about a year...

Well I've finally done it!!! I'm filled with aprehension.... have I done the right thing or not?

My photography tends to be at the wider end... and just felt i would not miss the 30mm at the top end but the 4mm at the bottom end would make such a difference! Much less lens changing... which I always seem to be doing with the 29-135 and my 15-30mm sigma... but noticed I rarely shoot much less than 24!

Im hoping to test this out on a cruise... my honeymoon where I think I will only take this one lens... I just feel like travelling light... and its my honeymoon after all... however I'm thinking I might miss my 15-30mm sigma... but then i'm thinking so what... 24mm should be enough on my full frame 5d for 95% of shots. Im just thinking I could still go wider at the historic sites...

Anyway... It comes in a week... do you think I've made the right decission... Is it really £450 of a better lens!?!

Ive just got a white boxed one, its the best move ive made by far. I love the lens, you wont regret it at all!!
 
I've just ordered one 2nd hand from here ..... im on a cropped body, but everything I've seen from this lens is sooooooo sweet

Im glad I got so many positive responses!

Cant wait for it to arrive... stuck at work today and so can't be arsed...

What do you think though??? Should I still take the 15-30 as well... or should I stick to the one lens while i'm away get to know it well and just make the best of what i've got... will 24mm be enough?

From the comments I've read elsewhere of people who use the 24-105, it tends to spend a LOT of time on full frame cameras, mainly because it's such a great combination of useful range, IQ, IS etc. See how you get on with it first, the consider lens options. After all, would you rather spend the dosh on a new piece of metal to weigh you down, or on the holiday where you can make use of your 24-105.
 
It's a great lens and if a life event is worth capturing, then it's sure worth capturing to the best of you and your equipments ability. It's a tool, but a great tool.

Just remember, it's a honeymoon and not a photo shoot! :D

I really like my 24-105 and despite some people rating the 24-70 better, I think the IS and additional focal length makes it one of the most flexible lenses out. 24mm seems to be about right if you don't want too much distortion.

YES... that is the one thing I need to remeber... but my fiancee is a bit of a TOG to... although not as much as me... I'd happily shoot anything all day! So def thinking taking only one lens is a good limiter...

I find that with my 15-30... anything under 20mm can get a bit whackey if not carefull.... I guess I feel the best way to improve my photography is to learn to work beter with what I have in terms of within limits... it will then force me to look harder for pictures... rather than reach for other lenses and more traditional "my photography" ideas... I need to be more out the box and adventurous!

So anyone got any tips or info on the lens... have you done the sweet spot test... what's its best apature in terms of clarity?

Any other tips on how it performs... things to watch for etc
