I originally had no intention of posting all my 365 shots on here (I guess I was scared I would get stressed at having to take a photo a day, they'd all turn out bad and everyone on here would think I was rubbish!) but then I figured getting feedback for an entire year would be extremely beneficial for me.

I started it on 1st January 2010, so here are my shots from 1st January, yesterday and today. Comments and helpful criticism welcome as always :)

Very best of luck with the 365!
I'm just sticking to a 52 this year - if that works well then I may try and commit to a 365 next year :)
I do like your photos - although surely that 2nd one wasn't taken around here - I've not seen anywhere near that amount of snow!

Nope, nothing much around here - the odd flake and that's it :(

Conversely - there was so much snow and ice around last week in York when I was visiting the parents that I was frightened of taking the camera out incase I slipped on the ice and broke the camera!

Only 4 and a half hours of the day left and I still haven't done my shot for today! Was planning to go and do it earlier but various other things distracted me...

Don't have that much inspiration for today's shot, but I better go and get it done now! I'll make sure it's up here shortly!

I think its cool, I like the contrast between the feeling of movement and the still background

great shots so far, i'm also doing a 365 but sticking it somewhere else because no doubt it'll end up a 132 or something :P

great shots though :)

Thanks for the comments :) The photo I took yesterday was the first self portrait I have ever done so I'm quite pleased with myself! I hated it at first but it's started to grow on me and now I really like it.

I always see so many people on Flickr that do self portraits for their 365, so I thought I'd try and throw in as many of my own as I can, seeing as it's not my usual thing. A couple of people's 365s that I follow on Flickr are just so creative and inspirational, so I hope that by practicing my self portraits I can get to the same standard some day...

Anyway, on to todays photo!

Loving your images so far! Bookmarked your thread to keep looking back at :D Keep at it :)

good photos, like 3 and todays best. Good look. ;)

really impressed with your project so far, i will be following it with interest...

LIke the last one....very good....No self portraits in mine I think....have to be very very desperate for a shot...

Thank you all so much for your kind comments :)

I had an idea for today's shoot, and it kind of ended up how I wanted it... However, my hands have NEVER been as cold as they were today! They went completely numb, then went tingly and I got scared that I might get frostbite! I managed to survive though, and my hands are alright now thankfully.

superb. very poignant...

I know the focus is slightly out on this photo which is annoying :bonk:

Oh and I had a bit of a problem with these photos today, if anyone could help me. When I'm setting the aperture and shutter speed at first, I'm obviously not infront of the camera, so I set it for the background. Then I press the shutter, run in to position whilst the self timer is counting down, and it takes the photo. But I came out underexposed :( how am I meant to know what exposure to set for me if I'm not infront of the camera?

Maybe there's a simple answer to this

excellent so far.. love the dog.. and very brave with all the self portraits outdoors in this weather! 5 is super, IMO

not great on all things technical.. but perhaps putting something where you plan to be and focus on that to get your settings?

possibly the problem today is due to the snow. the camera is metering for a bright scene, lots of white, reflective stuff...you, or other things in the picture, will be slightly dark...

Yeh I thought that, but then I didn't want to lower the shutter speed too much to get me correctly exposed, as then the snow would just be insanely white!
My question was really for any situation, not just snow. Should I just go with my instinct to whether I'll be lighter/darker than the background and change the exposure accordingly and hope it turns out okay?

Well done for getting started on this, still think you must be mad though. Especially if you're now going to try and put yourself in every one!

I am loving the processing and composition on these last two. Very understated, breaks rules and goes right against the normal saturation and contrast boosting most of us are tempted to explore.

Keep up the good work

edit: Actually the last one reminds me of an old album cover. Must spend forever working out which one now :)

personally i would say, go with your instinct. as we get into the habit of taking pictures every day we will learn to rely on our own judgement more...i think this 365 lark will give people confidence to do things their way, learn what works for them in certain situations.
it may be worth trying the colour cast correction thingy on photoshop...click on the whitest bit of snow and see what happens to the rest of the picture, just a thought.

Wow. Awesome set of pictures, I really love what you've done with the self-portraits! I really really really like #6. Even though its slightly under exposed I think it adds to it. Theres also a nice fogged look.

Keep up the superb work! =)

the exposure on that last shot works really well and I wouldn't have changed it (looks amazingly good in fact)

to get it 'perfect' try metering off the palm of your hand and going up like a stop and a third, usually a good ball park manual exposure ;)

Thank you :D and thanks for the tip, I'll try that next time!

Another great self-portrait!! You have a very photo-genic face which helps too!
And I like the crop on this shot too, nicely confined, yet enough is there. Good shot!

Also how are you getting the foggy affect with your portraits??

Anytime =)
ah, as simple as that hey?...lol. Thanks though. I'm really struggling to get anything today its really annoying me!

It's not one of Simon and Garfunkel's is it?
