Opinions on this lens?

I only have my kit lens atm and find im struggling for range at most tracks etc.

Only have a budget of around £200 so suggestions please?

Yeah definately but which lens?

The 70-300 Nikon maybe?

Whats the diff between the 200 and the 300mm? quite a hike in price and just takes it out of my price range atm im afraid :(

I can't believe you haven't been told to get the 55-200mm, it's a better if a lens. Fast focus, tac sharp and the difference between wife open and f8 is marginal. It's a serious lens!

The VR is cheap enough though, if you can't afford new get it second hand.

Also, the difference between 200mm and 300mm is such a small amount, I wouldn't even consider the extra range a major pro for the sigma, better to have a sharp lens which will allow you to crop!

Seen one for sale in the section on here...what were the comments on red ring earlier in thread?

i assume it will struggle in low light for that budget

The 55-200 i sold 2 weeks ago (on here) i never used it at all until i sold it then was asked by the buyer for sample shots and i was very impressed with it and was wishing i had used it before i decided to sell it. I had it for about 8 months too! Not the best built lens but don't feel like it will break without a bang.

Out doesn't struggle in low light but then it depends on type camera body. I never have problems with my D7000.

Oops I was talking about focusing!

All I can say is, the VR is good to about 1/30th but at f5.6 you will want higher iso's...

Here ya go.. used Nikon 55-200mm VR with 6 month warranty - £167

Lens here

Grab it while you can

Also your camera should produce good shots up to at least ISO 800-1600

Whats the APO about then?

There are a couple of different versions of the Sigma 70-300 lens - none particularly good value for money, IMHO. The APO version is generally acknowledged to be better image quality than the non-APO version.

Given the choice between a Sigma 70-300 (either verion) at and a Nikon 55-200 (VR or non-VR) ... I'd pay double for the Nikon :)
