Am sorely tempted by puddleducks nikon 17-55 but sadly after consulting my gf whom i share the camera with its a bit out of the price range when we dont even have a telephoto or wide angle. So, what do people think of the sigma? sharp? sloppy auto? let me know. has to be HSM vers because we´ve got a d40 and on this lens we´d actually use auto function.

yeah few people have suggested the tamron, is it better? if so in what way?

ive now started thinking about either 17-50 or 28-75 from tamron and a 70-200 to go with it. then il be able to conquer the world :D

i have a taomron 17-50 and the difference in quality between that and the nikn is minimal, build quality is far superior on the Nikon however but if you look after your gear it wont be a problem

Not sure if it's better as I've never tried the sigma or even the Nikon. I do like the quality I get from the Tamron though.

And I also have been thinking about a Tamron 28-75 to finish out my range. I have the 17-50 and the 70-200 already.

yeah im torn between what would serve better-17-50 or 28-75? prob the former as im a dx user although think i might get 70-200 first as dont have a telephoto

needs to HSM etc sadly as ive got a d40

The 17-50mm is basically the DX equivalent of the 28-75mm for FF. Cracking lens btw. :)
