Seems these are quite conservative, anyone used their gear in extreme temps for pro longed periods of time? what was it (camera type etc) and how did it fair? any special precautions taken?

Well i live in Canada, it was -35 with the wind today..my Canon 50D works fine in the cold...the battery life is shorter, but just get into the warm once and a while and you should be fine...now for the opposite end of the temp gauge i am not sure..

Hope this helps.

Had my 40d sat out for over an hour at -9 the other night to photograph star trails with no problem. I can't say the same for my cheap 3rd party remote release it's not happy in the cold at all.
