Is their an easy way to get this done, I struggled a few weeks ago to try and resolve this issue, does anyone know if there is an idiot proof guide with logical steps that I can follow to achieve this Please .

Yes, download the DNG converter from Adobe and convert your CR2 raw files to DNG raw files.

seems to be quite a few DNG converters? when I open older files it opens using ps cannon RAW 5.0 so which one do I download?

Sorry is that file for cs4 and once downloaded does it run in the background or do you have to follow instructions to use.

You need to convert your files to DNG files. It is a totally separate process and provides a set of files that Photoshop can read. It isn't a camera raw plugin, but a conversion tool. It will come with instructions.

I never had a problem with my 5DMk2 files in Photoshop CS4 after Adobe updated its Camera Raw plugin and that was back in January 2009. Just download one of the later versions.

The 5DMk2 was released in September 2008, Adobe CS5 was released in April 2010, pretty sure that 5DMk2 owners were able to open their RAW files straight into CS4 for the 18 months gap prior to the release of CS5.

I open shots from a 5d2 into CS4 every day of the year. No problem. Have you hit the `updates` button in the `help` menu?

My apologies. I read CS3 not CS4... <sigh>. Yes, it is supported directly with an ACR update.

Not your fault I did post cs3i n my title, my mistake then edited to cs4 :bonk:

pressed the update button and am downloading 199.3MB of updates will let you know how I get on thanks.

You need the Camera Raw update (at least). Hopefully, the 199.3MBytes will contain this :)

update hit a few problems closed down cs4 during the process and continued update, connected up camera try test pic via bridge conversion to DNG then opened up in CS4 crossed my fingers and BINGO picture loaded :clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap: will know go back and load another 400 pics once again thanks to everyone for their helpful inputs especially the one that said up date via the help button.

My invoice is on it's way - but you probably won't be able to open it...

Hope it works out!

got as far as opening 9 pictures and computer posted an error message that my hard disk was low on space :bonk: so tonight i am going to defrag my hard disc then maybe try again later tonight if I have the time.

You'll probably find your disk is getting full and defrag won't help. Remember 5d2 raw files are huge so will soak space like mad.

Might be worth sorting a couple of external drives and using Microsoft sync toy to store them

Have a 500gb hard drive and is showing around 227gb of free space so not sure its that?

Yes, it can be, when you are working on large files the space you have allocated as a scratch disk can be readily eaten up, leaving little other space. It will also depend on how much Ram you have in your system as the two often work hand in hand.

My Imacon 528C when used in 16bit, 16x microshot mode gives a file size of 528MB, when worked on this used to all but crash my system. I had to upgrade to a Quad core processor with 16GB RAM and a 1TB hard drive of which 500GB is used as a scratch disk to be able to work on these files at any sort of respectable speed.

If you have the latest ACR running on CS4, you shoudl be able to open the raw files directly without having to convert them to DNG first. That should save you some file space, as the DNG files will be taking up space unnecessarily.
