I've just seen a Open box D4s from a reputable camera shop roughly £600 cheaper than a used one. There is no wear/Actuation description or what it's supplied with.

Am I missing something to why its so much cheaper???

Quoting Google:-

"Simply put, an item that is an 'open-box' product has been opened before it was returned to the retail store or to the manufacturer. There are several possible reasons why an item is returned, and not because it has been damaged."

I'd be wary at first but there's no harm in asking what's included and the condition of the items. They would be bound to tell you if they're selling you something.

The D4s was discontinued about 5 years ago. Maybe it's new old stock that would otherwise be hard to shift? If it's a reputable shop selling below the market rate, you might just have found a bargain! If it's mail order in the UK you'll be covered by the distance selling regulations anyway, and can return it if you're not happy.

Ask the questions if you're concerned. I bought an open box Fuji kit from WEX. The customer had simply changed their mind and returned it. The item was absolutely immaculate and 20% cheaper. Seeing as you have a warranty and a return period with the item you've little to lose and 600 quid to gain.

Don't they have to mark as ex-demo these days? Or is that just what some retailers do
They have, it’s been marked as open box. They don’t have to use the term ex-demo. When I worked in retail they were marked as non pristine as soon as the box was opened but that didn’t mean the goods were damaged.

if it concerns you, give them a call

It was with Wex. OB D4s for £1223 but its already gone. Just thought it was too good to be true considering others are a lot more expensive in " worse condition "

£600 cheaper? If it seems to good to be true, it probably is.

But then I've used that mantra to miss out on quite a few good deals in my lifetime.

Either it WAS dud and came straight back (in which case they have honoured the warranty) or they've found some NOS and are slowly listing it. BARGAIN! BUY!!
