Today, 3 times with Curry's and 2 times with Argos, I got the above message on screen when attempting to make a £200 purchase. I put all my credit card details etc. in then duly got the usual message about bank verification requiring a OTP.
The OTP's all arrived in about 20 secs, but just I was able to enter it the dreaded "Oops..Payment fail! Please try again or choose an alternative way to pay" popped up !!!
I have tried 3 different browsers and then phoned the card company who confirmed that there was no problem with the card and there was nothing to show that the retailers had attempted a transaction.
I have been using it on another large retailer without a hitch.

Anyone know what causes this infuriating nonsense.

No idea but it’s happening , got some diesel today , paid by card scan just about to get back in the car ,cashier banging on his window it hadn’t gone through , had to go back in and chip and pin . Suppose it’s sheer volume but ?

I did wonder if a busy system was the problem. I phoned the CC issuing bank 20 mins ago after another two failed attempts (with a different PC). The bank does not know of the problem and cannot suggest a reason. I am attempting to buy a Dyson product and at 2000 tried to make the purchase from a firm in Coleraine, over in Ireland. Very same problem - the 6 digit code is sent and received, but no box to enter it appears and the OTP window closes and the payment fail message pops up.
The payment fail message was worded slightly differently for each of the retailers.
Beginning to wonder if the Kremlin filth are tampering

Happens to me quite often with Amex.
The site says it accepts Amex but after a few goes I switch to Visa it works.

I have had the OTP thing fail quite a bit so i just use the APP for my CC to do the authorise bit works every time

I only use my CC from my PC's at home. Think I may go for a 2nd CC as a backup. Today's foul up has consumed a lot of wasted hours. Delays in getting a human to speak to in the bank were not too bad and they did confirm the card was good to go and nothing else on the bank side was malfunctioning. However, that leaves no where to go. Communication with companies etc. is a damned disgrace. The deliberately stay out of reach.

install the CC app on your phone then use that option as the verify when you pay from your PC works every time

I don't know what card your using but I have a similar problem my cc works with fine with all the companies I have used it on except Marks and Spencers no matter what I do or try I can never get an online payment to complete, I have just given up trying, I just pay with paypal which is setup to use my cc.
Personally I think it's the cc imps just messing with us.

Mastercard .............................. Never thought about using Paypal. Is setting up plain sailing ?

If there is a PayPal option at checkout AFAIK you can pay by PayPal without setting up an account. But IIRC that method does not give you Section 75 protection.

The same.
I set my account up years ago, to the best of my recollection it wasn't that hard and if memory serves me right all you need is a mobile phone and obviously a bank account or credit card.
I have never used the app I just stick to the website.

Thanks Dean.
I have recieved an email from one of the retailers (Donaghy Bros, Coleraine, NI) who noticed I had difficulty with the transaction and asking if would like to complete it. They are the only outfit that have responded to a customer difficulty and for that alone they desrve the sale. If they can throw any light on the cause of the problem I will provide the details here.

This pesky problem has had me lose hours on the phone to the CC people. They do not know what causes the problem (they admit it does happen) and that it will probably disappear .
I asked for a new card (just in case) and they are sending one out tonight (RM strike !). Nor are they sure the new card will resolve the issue.
Paypal also rejected the CC this morning, but accepted a debit card.
The problem lies with the OTP process (but not where OTP is used for login verification with Amazon).

Far from satisfactory that a bank is aware of a problem like this, but cannot get to the bottom of it.
