Hello,

got a bit of spare cash and was looking at purchasing one the sets above to help achieve some nice edits on top of Lightroom.

Just wondering if anyones uses them? what you think of them? which is the best?

Thanks

I use a few of Nik and Topaz, had a lot of problems with OnOne stuff over the years so tend not to bother with it now.

I've just acquired Nik's Silver Efex Pro 2 and love it. Very easy to use and great results. I get better B&W conversions than I could from Lightroom alone, and much faster. I also got HDR Efex Pro and just don't like it very much. Still easy to use but the results don't inspire me. Could be that I'm not that into HDR though.

I also use Topaz Adjust which is hit-and-miss. I use it for a specific purpose (adding fine detail into images) where it shines but the other bits don't do anything for me.

I've not used OnOne.

Most of these you can download and try for a few weeks.

yeah am about to try the free downloads to sample them and they also offer similar products so was wondering which ones i should try for bet results and ease of use.

thanks

I'd look at Nik's stuff first. For B&W their Silver Efex Pro 2 seems to be the most widely used plugin. Nik have their own local adjustment technology which distinguishes them from all the competition that I've seen. If you think you will want to do local adjustment in the plugin then Nik is the place to go first. Nik's stuff is expensive but student versions and/or buying within the US - if you can - saves quite a bit.

The training videos they post are alos very helpful to get you up and running quickly.

You don't say the sort of stuff you want to do but for HDR or skin smoothing work there are lots of alternatives.

Nik's colour FX pro & Silver FX pro very good with lot's of customisation allowance for each of the variations offered.

Looking at the Nik Software as i have been using Snapseed on the iPad and have been impressed with that.

Downloading all the trials now to see which has the best options for just general boosting of photos and B7W conversion so the Nik Silver Fx is winning at the moment from reviews i have read before. I just remember seeing Topaz at Focus and was impressed with their plugins.

SOmething else that would make a difference would be a plugin that works directly from Lightroom, which I'm not sure about Nik. Maybe you can advise?

Thanks
