Edit My Images
No
My neice is travelling the far east/Australia etc for a year. She has suffered memory card failures in the past and also needs to travel light. She is hoping to upload original images from her memory card(s) via internet cafes so she can access them all on return.

In general this would be good to use an online service..and if possible, maybe something she could share her images with friends although that is secondary issue. Is there a good free or low cost service she could use? Is Flickr the most suitable for this type of thing?

I'd go with Microsoft Skydrive. It's free for up to 7 Gigs, has a lovely interface, and a good amount of sharing options.

Set up a Skydrive account, login, upload.

Hi, it won't be several Gb I don't think...well not all in one go. She'll be shooting jpg on a compact and is only a casual photographer - well basically not a photographer as such - a tourist with a camera :-)

Thanks for the Skydrive suggestion, never heard of it until now.

Tell her to spend a tenner on an extra card

How does that make her images secure? She already has a couple of cards each capable of storing several hundred images - she wants them backed up 'safe' with no worry of losing cards, having her netbook stolen etc.

You never mentioned anything about 'secure' or backing up

Well my OP does really ask about online services and sharing rather than depend on cards that my be lost/stolen, damaged etc. but thanks anyway :-)

I should have said some students buy extra cards and post them home every month. This gets around the no internet issue but I see what you are saying.

Note, it is possible to lose images/data that are stored online, also most IP's offer free storage but as has been pointed out internet connection, transfer speeds and data limits are usually the problem.

Hope she enjoys her hols

i use dropbox nice quick and can be intergrated on top a desktop pc or laptopas a file so when you go to my computer you can find it very easily
very low starting GB but add people via email get them to sign up and every person who signs up you get another 500mb i have around 8 or 9 gb at the min
