Later this year my eldest grandchild is getting married and the couple are having a pro photographer for the official pics - however they have asked me to do a selection of 'candids' from the reception.

I would like to be able to prepare the finished pics in a photo-book for them, with probably a few more printed for others who may be interested (i.e. likely a small print-run).
I have seen 'Blurb' and done a quick sample iBooks download from there to try it out and whilst it works I don't know how reliable the production is, bearing in mind it seems a US company, though I assume they have a UK outlet - I have no experience of the quality either.

Bearing in mind that I am starting with only the means of taking the pics (D3S) and preparing them (CS5 etc), what would your recommendation be for the easiest, most versatile and economical company providing this service?

As long as you are not bothered about your book having the Albelli logo on it, I would agree. The quality isn't bad for the price, software easy to use and reasonably quick delivery.

We've tried them for bottom end albums (kids birthdays etc) but problem to us is the logo. They were supposed to be looking at an option so you could pay a bit extra to have it excluded, but I don't think this ever materialised.

The logo is on the 2nd last page of the book along with the barcode. The barcode is used throughout production and this is the reason it cannot be removed.

So, on opening the book from the rear you have the hardcover, a blank page of normal paper, the next page is photo paper and has the logo/barcode.........this is the page I remove.

This leaves a blank page between the last photo and the rear cover of the book, which is the same as the front of the book, hard cover/blank page/first photo.

Hope this makes sense?

Blurb books for the UK used to be made in the US but now come from Europe... pretty quick and quality has improved over time, they now offer quite decent paper upgrades for little additional cost.

Lightroom 4 now has the new Book Module (with Blurb built in) which makes the job much easier. I designed a Blurb book for a client in LR4 when I first got it and was very pleasantly surprised to get a hefty discount off the book as my first order for a Lightroom designed book... if they are still doing the discount it could be worth looking at, I guess you could always do it in a free LR4 trial if you don't have the software.
 
Don't use Lightroom but maybe worth having a look.
 
I have had a couple of books from Blurb and they came from The Netherlands. I was very happy with the quality and opted for the standard paper option.
