Hi guys,
The Goddaughter had her Christening last weekend, and I have been asked if I could get some nice pictures of her in her Christening gown.

I've been given a small idea of what is wanted, white backdrop etc. I've informed them that I lack equipment in this side of things, but I'm willing to give it a try, if I fail massively they don't mind getting it done professionally.

How much luck am I going to have trying to do a shoot like this with mainly natural lighting and a flash? I have an SB-600 with a Stofen diffuser, but that's literally it in the way of producing light.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I'll try and get as much natural light into the room where it'll be happening as I assume that'll help a fair bit?

Thanks in advance for any help.

For a one off you might be able to fudge something with photoshop, that's a first for me.

To do white background justice it needs lighting, with 2 flashes to avoid too much hassle.

But, if you can sort a flat white backdrop at 45deg to the window and get your flash off camera through a soft box for the background slightly overexposed. A little work from a reflector might get you close enough for photoshop to sort.

Thanks Phil, more or less what I had in mind.

Can't really afford a second flash at the moment, so think I'll try with the 45 degree idea. How much am I looking at realistically for a soft box/reflector that'll do a decent enough job? I've seen the ones for just a few quid on eBay but would I just be wasting my time? I'm doing it on Sunday so I'd need to order it fairly soon.

I bought one for less than £30 but I already had the stand and bracket ( and triggers). Tripods and monopods make occasional use stands though,

You don't need to spend fortunes, but you need a decent size. (70cm?)

Hi

I ordered this yesterday day morning and it was delivered today.

Not used it yet and I am still learning how to use the flash off camera. I will have to order a light stand as well which are about £11 on amazon.

I've got triggers already, and a Redsnapper tripod which should be okay for my occasional use. Just decided to go with the link below, hope that's sufficient!

Thanks for the tip, reassuring to know they're quick at delivering too.

Had seen it mentioned on here whilst I was trying to do some research and couldn't ignore it twice, seems decent for the money. :)

Just seen this, will I not be able to connect it to my Red Snapper tripod in any way then?

Don't know about that tripod, I have a cheap hama one which I use with my camcorder and it will not fit to that. Will try and find a video of the brackets which might help you.

Ps : the konig light stands are good for the price

Edit: just reread your posts and you've already ordered one

I agree they are good for the price but are they strong enough to hold the soft box with a sb800?

Thanks

It depends on the bracket and what else you get with it, my brolly / softbox flash bracket has a tripod thread in the bottom, some of my stands have a tripod thread on top to suit.

Yeah plenty strong, especially indoors. Outdoors I'd weigh it down though

Thanks Phil, I think I'll see if I can make do with what I've got, fingers crossed! Too late to order anything in time now anyway.

Thanks for the help guys!
