Yes
Well, I have just sat down to edit my project 52 pics from today and have just done the most stupid thing in my life.

I took my sd card out of my camera and went to insert it into the reader on the side of my iMac. But oh no, I am not capable of achieving such simple tasks. I have just inserted the sd card in to the cd drive of the mac and now it has disappeared in to the internals. :bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang:

No 52 fun for me just a trip off to the mac store with the whole computer to get a genius to pull it apart for me.

Anyone know how to open up an iMac?

Nick -

I have tried to hook it back out but am worried about doing damage to the drive.

Oh dear :amstupid: :D

What if you tip the until on the side, might slide back closer to the slot

Happened to me too!!! Only it wasn't as far in, so I pulled it out with tweezers.

I have now stuck a small piece of rubber on the iMac just behind the sd card slot and run my hand behind the screen until I touch it. That's where it's safe to insert the card!

Hope you get it sorted.

Hammer :D

Got the card out.

Turned it on its side and managed to hook it out.

One prob though. Mac now has no sound. it is saying no output devise found. Ideas?

google had the answer. Reset the PRAM.

Phew. Mental note to ones self. Don't be a nob in future!

I've no idea if your computer uses on-board sound or a sound card but it sounds like you might have dislodged something when turning the box on its side. Do you know your way around the inside of a computer to check? If not then it's a trip to the repairers.

Edit: I see you've sorted it.

Ah man that sucks.

Taking apart an iMac is tricky. Glass is easy to pull off, but outing it back together without getting dust between the glass and the LCD is a nightmare.

Yep.... I did this once and it took weeks until I get rid of the dust

Sorry to hear that, it did make me laugh but because I have nearly done the same a number of times.

Judging by the number of people that this had happened to, I think the thread title should be in of the dumbest things Apple had done. Not the cleverest of places to locate a card reader.

Jonathan Ive missed this one. :-)
