One lens, 1 camera, just walking about what settings ?

As above really, when out for a walk with just 1 camera and 1 lens what settings would you leave your camera on so that at that opportune moment you can simply pick up you camera turn it on and snap that shot real quick with minimal adjustment ?

Either p mode or Tv mode at 1/125 sec and also leave the camera on all the time, you might miss the shot waiting for it to power up if you switch it off completely.

That would depends on available light andwhat you are looking to get pictures of :shrug:
I'd normally have the 70-200 on and at this time of year would be on shutter priority ISO 200 or 400 so if I see anything I can just grab a shot, I normally look for birds or animals
 
Taking it as a sunny day -

Out in the open AV, F8, ISO 100-200, tamron SP 70-300 VC

Wooded - the same but ISO 400-800
 
I have C3 on my 7d (the cutom user settings) set to Av, f8, ISO800. This setting is at one end of the settings dial, so that I can blindly twist that dial and instantly have a bunch of settings that should be OK for most wildlife.
 
depends where i was and when.

In town in a stealthy mood...

Rangefinder, 50mm, Aperture priority, 100 ISO, f4, with he option to flip apetures about

In the countryside
DSLR Aperture priority f8 ISO 100 18-200 lens as a starting point
