Not really sure what you mean by this. What button are you pressing to get focus? What does the joystick have to do with it.

My first though was that you are in Servo AF mode but in this mode by focus point turns light blue.
Is your lens set to manual focus?

No the lens is set to manual focus.

I used to press the "AF on" button to get focus. There is also clusters of Green boxes on the rear screen.

Thanks for your help,

Thanks for your help,

I'm quite confused.... If the lens is set to manual focus then surely back button focus will have no effect. In manual focus mode you'll need to turn the focus ring and the square will turn from white to green when the subject is in focus.

Thanks for your reply. You say you are confused, you are not on your own ,I too am now confused, I have tried and tried to get BBF which I have had set up before. Cannot get it, yet before I had the repair carried out I set it up quite easily. I think it must be me asI had the repair carried out by a reputable company. Lehmann's of Stoke.
I gave you the wrong info rehgasrding the lens setup, it is set to auto.

Have you removed the AF function from the shutter button? My R6 is set up for two button back button focus so I can swap between normal AF with AF point type I’ve selected and Eye AF.

Buttons are set up as:

Shutter = metering start

AF-ON = metering and AF start

AE lock button (*) = eye detection AF

AF point button (.:.) = AF point selection

Thanks for the info, will give that a try.

I have altered the camera to your settings works okay except for the clusters of green boxes I get on the rear screen I cannot get rid of them.

If I have the AF point selection set to a large zone then I get cluster blue boxes darting around the AF box when I press the AF-ON button. If I have it set to single point AF then that box goes blue. I think you can set the AF point colour confirmation hence mine is blue. What AF point selection are you currently using?

If its not this can you take a few photos or a short video then we may be able to understand better.

I've just looked this up. Green boxes shows focus has been achieved when using one shot. If focus hasn't been achieved in one shot they turned orange. In servo AF the boxes are blue and dart around within the AF zone selected.

Thanks again, you are being a great help.

And if you’re getting a cluster rather than a single box, one of the buttons will be set to cycle, single point, spot, cluster etc. so you need to work out which button that is and press till it shows one box (if that’s what you want).

If it’s AF method another way to change it would be via the menus. AF menu > tab 1 > AF method.

@swiftflo it may be easier to help if you take a photo of the rear screen with a phone to show the issue you’re having.

If I press the AF-button or both of the right hand top buttons the cluster of green boxes show in the rear screen. So what do I do to correct them.

I'm not sure what "correct" would be for you. This looks like correct functioning of back button focus for single shot. Personally I use back button focus in servo mode which means the boxes will be blue and you can see them move as AF tracks the subject. If that's what you want use the Q menu to change "one shot" to "servo". Hope this helps.

Sorry for my terminoligy I haven't tried servo mode. Will give it a try.

I was trying to say "how do I not have the cluster of Green/blue boxes on the screen."

The blue box is where your AF point starts, applied on both single shot or AI Servo.

The green box is where the subject selected is tracked for AI Servo and confirmation of AF is achieved to the subject for single shot.

To turn it off maybe just change to manual focus???
