On location shoot advice needed

afternoon all....

I'm getting pretty anxious about a shoot I'm doing tomorrow... The shoot is for a local clothes shop who supports local designers.

As its a Manchester based shop/designers they would like some images around town with some iconic backdrops showcasing the designers range and the shop (Weather permitting)

As this is the first time of doing this kind of thing.... All I'm taking with me is camera/lenses....(obviously) my flash, trigger/receivers and my Garry Fong light sphere.... So I'm traveling light!

I'm currently feeling like I've been called up to fix a battle ship with just a 10mm spanner!!

Do you have any tips, links to fashion shoot vids, do's/donts etc

All advice welcomed.

This is an unpaid project.... Two locals helping each other out for each other's websites.

A light stand and light box would create much more pleasing light even if fitted with a speedlight.

You need an action plan though otherwise before the shoot. Check out possible locations.

Been looking at locations all afternoon.... I'm sure (hope) it will be fine :/

Have a shot/pose list and get it in a plastic wallet-type thing on a lanyard round your neck. Subtle changes of the model - look left, right, at the camera, play with your hair, etc etc. Before you know it you've got 5 or 6 different images from one single pose.

Good luck and remember to have fun with it!
 
Ditch the light sphere... it will do you no good around town/outdoors.
And maybe at least get a reflector/bounce panel of some sort.... anything...

I would be down at Calumet on Downing St. at opening time to get a few bits as suggested. It's all a bit last minute but as others have suggested a GF lightsphere ain't going to do you any favours outdoors.
 
thanks all for your input - As luck would have it!! its been put back to next Monday! pheeeww! Anxiety now on hold - so first thing this morning ive been on amazon and ordered some gear! this week will be researching ! when the shoot happens ill post some images.
 
The first step should be to research some locations, and make sure that you're shooting when they're available, probably very early morning at this time of year.

That'll be much more important than any other aspect of the shoot.

As above, adding flash could be a masterstroke, or a complete disaster. Depending on your expertise with it.

Thanks for asking Gary - The shoot went ahead however it wasn't without its complications (i know right...) The band running late, The Manchester rain poured and my off camera flash just wouldn't work (no matter what i did - probably overlooked something as as i stressing about it actually not working and the already sinking sun/available light) So, we were rapidly losing light and running out of time we managed to get a couple of shots we were all happy with... that said - as everything was little rushed we plan to do the shoot again in the summer...here are a couple...

Well done, nice set, especially given the conditions !
Couple of minor niggles, but nothing major.
The road could be toned down a bit in the first, the blinker in the second.Love the third, very relaxed.
I look forward to the re-shoot, if these are anything to go by !!
 
Nice set.

Lots of time to practice and get the kit working before the summer re-shoot, but as its Manc, the weather will probably still be the same :D
 
The first one i would say tone the road down a little but not completely because it offers some contrast to the guy at the back's legs. I would also say straighten the image too as i find the buildings in the background being on the wonk to be quite distracting but that is just me!
That being said i think the other two look pretty good and all things considered regarding the flash i have no real complaints.
Btw, when did John Snow get into a band?
